I think we all forgot the most important thing. I know when the water will break, contractions will start and there will be bleeding if any we all will panic so much so that we might forget the most important thing to take it along. Our pregnancy file .... please make sure u mention the location of it to your husband/mother/mother in law, and let them know that they have to take it along when u will be rushed to the hospital for the new arrival ... :)
Vini replied. Hey Good Job Vidhi...
I knew quite a lot of stuff to be packed... The book that I read(what to expect when you' re expecting) says a lot... But still I did a lot of search online and also asked a lot of moms and decided what all to pack... And now I see that you have mentioned almost all of the things here...
All the best friends... I started packing today... Just collecting whatever I remember...
Take care and I will update on 1st... I have my 4D u/s on that day...
Jichi replied. Hi Vidhi,
Nice list....You have covered almost everything i suppose. I would like to mention few things, hospital will provide you and you can take back with you to home, if you are delivering in the US of A.
a. Disposable Panties
(They provide you for hospital stay, but,you can request them for some more to use @ home...it is really helpful during our first week when the flow is heavy)
b. protective paper(which they use to protect the bed)
They wouldhave kept a bundle in your bedside table, which is for your use only...so the remaining you can take it
c. some Foam kinda medication
Which they use everytime for our pad change for the stitches(for vaginal delivery). It has your name on it and it will be in the restroom shelf. This is also yours and they will just throw it out once you are discharged. THis helps ease your itchness in the vaginal area.
d. A tray with Jug and a measuring cup:
Which is for your sole use to drink milk/water/juice
e. Things in the bassinet:
You have few baby diapers, a diaper bag, sample formula, books, coupons etc, a baby dress with hospital seal on it - all for baby and they also have mentioned it in a chit that you can take everything in it.
e. Vaginal Washer
They use the ketchup dispenser kind-a thing to wash our vaginal area, everytime they change the pads, it is also yours, (named on it) which you can take, useful @ home longtime even after your postpartum.
All these things are covered by our health insurance. These details were told by a very nice nurse, during my hospital stay for my first child. She reminded me, the day before i got discharged....i am thankful to her even now for letting me know abt this,
Hope this helps.
Jichi
PS: Those who are outside US, Except that foam medication, you get everything in the medical stores, so can stock it up and use it when needed.

Hi Reshmi,
You can chant mantras-anytime throughout. Normally it is advisable to get overnight protection pads, esp Cotton Ones is good. The hospital will provide you for the stay and give you some to take home, but you need that atleast for the next 20 days. so, get in advance and stock up.
Hope this Helps,
Jichi

Name: Dolly Subject: Bag Packing
Finally, the time is come to bag pack for me as well. I am the first one in the lot as my due date is 2nd Aug, so have already done my initial packing. But, Vidhi´ s list is also good one to follow.
Just wanted to add, i have bought disposable panties to use during my hospital stay as the normal ones might get badly stained and not appropriate to ask anyone to wash or even use it again. Also have got breast pads from mothercare to keep me dry during leakage.
Cotton roll (to clean baby after potty), dettol handwash (for visitors), four days dosage of folic acid, iron and calcium, toilet tissue roll (my hospital don´ t keep them), towel, wrapping cloth for the baby.
I will also include some cereal bars as i don´ t trust hospital food taste wise, i might not like it and if i feel hungry they will be good to munch on.
And to Alolika, talk about junk and all the unhealthy food, i am craving for good chinese, feels like its been ages i had it last.
