Waiting to try:Pre-pregnancy Planning

Hi All,

I am all of 27yrs, married for the past 1.5yrs and staying with my in-laws. My husband and I felt this maybe the right time to get pregnant, as we both are well placed, at work (not very demanding for me) and at home (my mother stays close by).

As a first step, we thought of undergoing a pre-pregnancy test, to check whether I am fit [I am a tad bit overweight].

I took an appointment with Dr.Leela Rao practicing at Laxmi Nursing Home, Malleswaram. Has anyone of you heard about her? Pls share your feedback / experiences.

Also, I stay in Malleswaram, so does anyone know of any other good OB/GYN around this area?

My Experience at Lakshmi Nursing Home:
It was the first time I saw so many pregnant women in one place My husband and I were quite nervous initially. Anyways, after a long wait I was sent to a room where another lady doctor did a prelim check - BP, weight, LMD, etc. She asked me to wait for my turn.

After a while, I was sent to meet Dr.LeelaRao along with my husband. She examined me and then asked me to get a blood test done to check RBS (Random Blood Sugar), TSH (Thyroid-Stimulating Hormone) and HGB (Hemoglobin) levels. She also recommended I start taking this multi-vitamin tablet called MCBM-69 (a combination of Methylcobalamin, Pyridoxine and Folic acid) immediately and continue till 3 months of pregnancy.

Overall, she was very nice & comforting and took time to answer some of our silly doubts

Touch wood, everything seems normal so far, except for my weight. She has asked me to try and reduce atleast 4-5kgs!!! Dunno how I will manage to do that… Any suggestions?

We plan to start trying soon, so wish us luck!

I cannot answer your questions about the clinic or the drs you are seeing since I am not from there but I can tell you somethings that could help.
Don' t worry too much about your weight. It is not as if overweight gals don' t have kids. But for your overall health you might want to start eating right and exercing. Cut down on your processed sugars and limit your salt intake. Eat a balanced diet with proteins, fruits & vegetables. Drink lots and lots of water. This will not only supress your hunger but also help with mucus for conceiving. Get moving - do some basic exercises or start doing more housework to get your self moving (for eg. walk to the store rather than taking the car or bus if possible). Although it is hard, try not to think too about having sex to make a baby. It will kill your mood and your hubby' s as well. Make it just another thing you do with your hubby for happiness. You are young and seem to be on the right path with drs & vitamins. So relax and enjoy the experience. It will happen soon. Loads of luck.

Hi Anita. Thanks for your valuable advice. I have started walking for about an hour but not everyday and I do yoga for about half hour everyday. I have totally cut down on sweets and fried stuff and trying to eat as healthy as possible. I hope this will help will pull down a few kgs. I am not too fond of driking water. I have abt 1.5 litres but thats only because I have to. I will try to increase my water intake from today.
A very nice thing you said about enjoying sex and not thinking too much about making a baby. I will definitely keep that in mind and try to relax.
Thanks for the good wishes :-)
