Due Date Club December 2006:Sleeping position & Fetal Movement

Hi All,

This is Nithya Srivatsan. I am working in a BPO. I work in shifts. My due date is dec 10,2006. I am currently in the 6th month.
I have a question in my mind.
1) Why are we adviced to sleep on side. I feel comfortable if I sleep on my back. Is it wrong. What actually happens to the baby if we lie on back. Even if I sleep on my side, I turn to the other side in few mins. Can I turn to the other side in lying manner itself. Will it bother the child.

2)I still do not feel the baby's movement. But I can feel somestrange feelings in my stomach. But I am unable to confirm if this will how a movement wud feel like. I wanted to share this feeling of baby movement to my hubby. Both of us are very eager to feel the movement.
Any suggestions.

How are you gals feeling?

Do share your thoughts with me..

Hi Nithya ,
1. Like u i also felt that if i sleep on my back i will be more comfortable.usually elders say not to sleep on back . Its all in the later stage i.e when we r in our 8th month as the .Sleeping on the left side is usually good for the blood flow to uterus. I asked my doctor regd this. she told, if i suffer from back pain then i can sleep on my back and its not that we shouldn't.

2.Iam stepping into my 7th mth on 27th of August. I started feeling baby kicking nicely. initially u will feel as gastric problem but its the baby movement and not gas.By this time u can surely feel. During night time u can feel more....NJOY and SHARE THE JOY

Welcome to the club!!!

Lying on your left side is actually good for you and your baby: It improves the flow of blood and nutrients to the placenta and it helps your kidneys efficiently eliminate waste products and fluids from your body. That, in turn, reduces swelling in your ankles, feet, and hands.
Avoid sleeping on your back, a position that puts the full weight of your uterus on your spine, back muscles, intestines, and the inferior vena cava (the vein that transports blood from your lower body to the heart). Try to come up with a comfortable sleeping position by keeping pillows.

About movements I started to feel them from 20 wks and now I am 23 wks(due date Dec 16th), though it is not so pronounced like kicks, it is something like a flutter or a bubble bursting. I think coz u r working and busy u r not noticing the movements. On weekends after lunch/dinner try lying down on ur left side and u can feel the movements.

Also people say movements are pronounced if u eat something sweet or cold. I think u just need to hang in a few more days and both u and ur hubby can enjoy the kicks. Even my hubby is waiting for the same

Keep writing.

Bye,
leo

First of all. I would like to thank you both Leo & Fortejas for replying to my questions.

All the very best for both of you.

I will try to sleep on the sides. But u see as time goes in sleep I am not sure if I am still in the same position.suddenly I realise that I am not sleeping on the side and I correct myself again. I could feel something in my stomach but I am unable to confirm is that the movement. somekind of bubble bursting. but when u spk of movement is this what you call as a movement.

Once again I wish to thank both of you. Happy to share the views, questions and doubts which arises as others may not feel exactly what we go through.

How much have your body weights increased?

What about exercising? Are u guys doing any exercise?

Keep Posting!

Hey ,

join the club , i am due on dec 02 , 2006 ..

abt the sleeping postion, we are advised to sleep in the side postion bcoz if you sleep on the back, the uterus puts weight on the organs below it .... it actually puts weight on the vwins taking blood to the legs..sleeping on the side, specially on the left side helps in better blood flow to the fetus .... it is generally recommended to sleep on the side specially as ur pregnancy adavnces .... try cushioning yourself with pillows to amke it more convenient ....

abt movements .... it is very much possible to not figure out it si movements in the begining .. i am sure they will become more pronounced as the weeks progress ..now , i am in my 25th week and i can feel something thu mping inside my abdomen ..also try resting and putting your palms on the tummy , my bay seems to respond very well to that .. i can soemtimes feel more movement that way ...

anyway , take care, enjoy every moment of this wonderful experience and keep posting :)
