Hey Arch. .. Viji here ... 2nd time preg with twins ... 1st one normal delivery ..Niharika ... 4 yrs old..

I was due for NST day before yesterday ... they could not get continous readings bcos both of them were moving too much. To be on safer side they asked me to take a scan... she said all fine ... growth is also fine and both were head down position.

Now to the question... The estimated weight of 1st child is approx 1680 +/- 168 gms and that of 2nd child is 1553 +/- 155 gms. I am in the 33rd week ... will be completing 36 weeks end jan ... after that the doc says we will wait for max 1 more week ie 37 weeks...and tehn we can decide depending on babies positions ... sugar levels (under control till now thro diet) and other factors...

My Q is that even if i manage to pull till 37 weeks ... how much more weight will the babies have put on and in all cases what is the ideal birth weight of twin babies ?? Is there anything i can do to enhance weight gain..? I have put on about 6-7 kgs during the whole term of preg ... for the last 1-1.5 months it has been stagnant ... no gain .. no loss ...

I would definitely appreciate any other tips too to make normal delivery possible this time too ...and any tips to handle twins after birth along with a 4 yr old elder kid.

normally twins won't have size of sigleton. They will be around 5-7 pounds if born full term, sometime even slightly above 4 lbs.

the good news is they are active and cephalic presentation. I think you should encourage your OB to wait for at least 38 weeks completion though for twins in USA 37 weeks regarded as full term. This is only if you don't get in labor on your own before end of 38 weeks. At the end of 38 weeks think of induction and having Niharika born vaginally you would use prostaglandings and then pitocin if induction is required.

I strongly recommend long walks, ghee with milk and if possible intercourse from 36 weeks onward.
