I don' t know where I cna post these kind of queries.but, here is my query.

I am married for about 6years now, we live in UK. I have a sister who is been recently married, lives in India. Our father is going to retire in one month. My sister was telling me that we have to through a party for his retirement. Can anybody tell me or give me any ideas for this party. How these party’s are conducted in India. Can anybody suggest any gift ideas for this occasion? Do we have to gift gold to my father( I think I read it somewhere).

U can gift clothes and a NAvaratna Ring(It cost u around Rs 25,000 to Rs.30,000 ,Depends on size ) .There is a belief that ,If anyone wear this ring they lead peaceful life. So we presented my FIL and donno it worked or not but he used to be very arrogant but after retirement, he is cool man now.


If ur father already had it, U san gift a bracelet .


Regarding celebrations, Me and my hubby planned it and choosed an auspicious day in our vacation(we choosed a vacation just for his retirement) and called all the relatives and family friends.Morning We performed a vritham we generally do in our homes for any achievement or occassion ( It is Satya Narayan Swamy vritham) . then we offered lunch.

Evening we decorated home with ballons and banners.We got a bigg cake and made my mil and fil sit there in chairs and asked them to cut cake. We yelled while thye r cutting cake \" Goodbye Tension-Welcome Pension\"

My Father-in-law really n' joyed it and couldnt stop tears of happiness when we were gifting and his grandchildren hugging him .

On his retirement day ,u can give a news paper ad telling him \" happy retirement\" with ur parents photo in it . We did it and he still hid it as a memory.

In their old age, these kinda functions assure them that they r so special to their children .So however u celebrate it, ur father will be happy for both of u !

So, Plan for the day! Make it simple and sweet in his loving ppl' s presence.


As my FIl love our own home verymuch we did it in our home so he loved it. If u have no time to do it in home, U can do it in a hotel or bonq.hall. They take care of all decorations and catering ,so u need not to worry .Just going and celebrating! thats it!
