Nice to see so many gals joining this board and posting many topics. though i was reading many of this everyday and wanted to reply or post but i was stuck with my work last few days.
i live n Bangalore - India and currently in 10th week. My doctor does ultrasound for me once in a week. Heard from my sister that generally so many u/s is not done at such an early stage. Not sure if my dr is doing it just for money. Pls let me know if girls in India are undergoing scan so frequent.
Regarding Heartbeat - we started SEEING heartbeat in U/S since 7 weeks. But she says i can hear the same after 14 weeks or something beyond that. Now i am confused seeing all ur messages that u all HEARD heartbeat in U/S and also u guys are able to tell the rate. my dr never had told me abt the heartbeat rate so far though she does scanning every week. Pls let me know if i need to ask my dr for the heartbeat rate???.
Next is symptoms. I get vomit sensation quiet often everyday. I am ok till afternoon and after that i am so disturbed. Also for the past few days i can feel my stomach bulges in the 2nd part of the day and is also hard to touch. I feel my stomach is filled with gas like a tyre filled with air. Itz so inconvient and am not even able to lie down or sleep when itz like that. Do anyof u face symptom like this??? If yes, whtz that u guys are doing for comforting it?
Sorry girls for the long message. Would be nice if u all can share ur views.

ramya replied. Hi Vidhu,
You seem to be confused about the heartbeat...
Actually while doing ultrasound, the doctor enabled volume (I had trans vaginal ultrasound..may be it had some microphone..i m guessing)
so i could hear the heart beat and also on the monitor I could see one heart beat graph...
Then in the graph it said 143bpm...so the doctor told me that the heart beat is 143bpm...
I hope this clears your confusion...
have a nice day

Rakhi replied. yes gals, i too saw the heartbeat when my first ultrasound was done (at 7 n half wks). and in my last visit (at 10 and half wks), i was able to hear the heartbeat thru doppler. but i did not ask my doc abt the rate and my doc didnt tell me too. only thing she said was that everything looks okay. and i was so excited to hear the heartbeat that i didnt even ask a single question that day!
best wishes always :)

ira replied. yeah, i also just saw the heartbeat.. and i think the doc did' nt attempt to measure it- maybe it was too early.
about ultrasounds: they' re quite harmless, but yes,you generally need about 6-7 u/s' s in the course of your complete pregnancy.my doc did one at 8 weeks, and my next one is at 12 weeks-to chk for down' s syndrome....
many doctors just do a scan everytime you visit....
are you in some kind of risk pregnancy state? if you' re above 32 for example... or you have some other risk.... that could explain why your doctor is scanning every week!
the nausea is a part and parcel of pregnancy.I also have more of evening sickness, starting in the afternoon.. and extends to the night.the gas is also normal.. believe me... my stomach bulges so much.. and its so uncomfortable doing up my usual jeans... i had to go out and buy maternity jeans and prego band to manage!! and it' s not the baby!!! the baby is only just over an inch long :-))
for the gas... i tried boiling a spoon full of jeera in a litre of water.. and drinking it 3 times a day.. esp after meals... but then i developed an aversion to the taste of jeera..... but it does help digestion!
eating small meals many times during the day ... and trying to walk a bit after every meal also helps... i founf that even if i just walk to and fro inside the house for about 10-15 mins after dinner...... it tends to lessen the gas and bloated sensation.
also drink a lot of water during the day... helps speed up bowel movement and lessens discomfort.
hope that helps!
all the best!

Meghnah replied. hello vidhu,
I changed my previous doctor, coz she unnecasarily did many tests, and you know the worst part is the basic test what she should have done she didnt do..This I came to know from my aunt whosz also a doctor..Really I feel that doing so many tests cud be avoided,if the doctor wanted to,but feels like it was mere money making..Coz my current doctor, she is against giving many tablets n doing many tests n ultrasounds.
Its doctors duty not to scare us,but my previous doc did many tests n scared me saying that shesz supporting my pregnancy by giving tablets..I came home n cried that day,but when I spoke to my aunt whosz also a doctor(genral practioner),she suggested me a very gud gynaec. This doctor did my thyroid n blood tests and she said its lil high, but not alarming at all.She prescribed some diet and she also assured that everything is going to be normal soon and that I neednt worry.
and vidhu regarding heartbeat, the ultrasound report carries the information pertaining to hearbeat.First the mention abt the gestational sac, they estimate the week of it,then the foetal pole which is identified with the cardiac activity(ie heartbeat rate of the baby) It need not be the same order as I mentioned.Nomally I feel the ultrasound report carries the heartbeat,n if it does not, there is no harm in asking the doctor to mention the heartbeat rate,n make u hear the same.
and hey vidhu,if u have any doctor in your family it wud be better to consult ur report with them. Its just double checking.
and regarding the stomach bulging, yup evn I face it,but I face it evrytime after I eat.My stomach feels bulged for abt half an hour, but then it goes off.I just dont care for it.I luk at my tummy n feel happy,I feel my baby has grown lil bit,but I know its just Gas,n nothing else:-)just keep kool..dont worry.Take care gud care of urself:-)
hope whatever I told helps u lil bit..n yes evn I shd ask sorry for writing so long message...
anyways take care.

hi vidhu!
i just " saw" the heartbeat when i went in at 8 weeks! my doc did not measure it.. and i did not think to ask!
and i guess you have a good doc who knows ur risks and that is the reason she´ s scanning every week... so you should be happy abt it..
BTW i asked my mom (she´ s a gynaec) abt ultrasounds... and she said they are completeyly safe.. they do not harm ur baby in any way!
so relax!!

hello vidhu,
How are you doing?I´ m doing great..
n regarding heartbeat, while the doctor was doing ultrasound,I specifically asked him howsz my baby doing? He then turned the monitor n showed me the small lil cashew sized baby,n after few mts he told me to hold my breath,n then he made me hear the heartbeat of my baby. While I cud hear the heartbeat,I cud also see the heartbeat pattern on the monitor. So I simultaneously cud hear n see the heartbeat.
anyways take care,n next time when u go 2 ur doctor, just ask her to make u hear the heartbeat
