Last week I had my GCT test done.Which showed blood sugar at 8.2mmol/l.(normally it should be less than 7.7).Nw doctor has recommended GTT and also gave me sm dietary restrictions.
I like to hv sugar in my milk and tea.I wanna knw is there any alternate to sugar?Wht abt sweetening agents? Are they safe in pregnancy?
Pls. let me knw abt ur dr. advice if any body is facing same situation.Wht abt different fruit juices in market.
I m very much worried abt it.
Take care.

Hi Namita, i just got my GTT done today. From the past few days, i m trying to avoid anythign that has added sugar. ANything that is naturally sweet is alrite. I read abt the diabetes thing and they say avoid carbs, but well, that is if you have diabetes. But till your GTT test, all i culd think of doing is avoid anything with added sugar, like juices, aerated drinks, chocolates, mithais, etc.

Hi Namita,

Don' t worry about high sugar levels, just follow the diet given by your doctor. But please don' t take any sweetening agents since most of them are harmful. The sweetening agents containing saccarine are carcinogenic whereas those containing aspartame(equal etc) are known to cause multiple scelerosis. Try to flavour your milk with natural flavours like kesar, badam powder etc.

Also in my prenatal classes they told us to strictly avoid readymade fruit juices since they contain excess amount of sugar along with salt, artificial flavoring and other preservatives. Stick to home made juices.

All the best.
