hi guys
i have a few doubts about the ear piercing ceremony (kadhu kuthu).i hav a 5 yr son koushik and we performed his tonsure when he was 2 but we didnt pierce his ears as we thought he was too young.now our astrologer says that koushiks ear piercing is a must.
1)can he still undergo the ear piercing ceremony?

2)will it really improve his health?

3)what sort of a earring should he wear?(can he wear something other than studs,are there anything like boys earrings?)

4)my mother told it is a bad omen if the pierced ear hole closes after the earrings are removed,is there any way of avoiding that?

it is a good decision to pierce his ears though you could have clubbed it with tonsure,as to your doubts:-
1)i think till the age of 7-8 yrs it is perfectly fine to undergo the ceremony.so 4-5yrs is perfect,and ofcourse your son can wear earrings.

2)yes it has been proved that ear piercing children improves their eye sight as well as their general health
There are fine nerve endings in the earlobes and if they are pricked and in constant touch with gold it is beneficial for both physical and spiritual health.

3)any earring as long as it is made of gold can be worn by your son.also the earring should suit your son.during the ear piercing of my son,his head was also tonsured and hence a golden gimmiki suited him.theres nothing like a boys earring.

4)i thimk by making him wear his earrings continously you can avoid this problem
