I am in my 31st week...and have been experiencing some pressure around the lower abdominal area. SOmetimes it feels as if something is going to come out (I must add that this pain is not painful, it is very uncomfortable). At other times, it feels af it my muscles have tightened up..i know the muscles tightening could be braxton hicks...but what about the other pain? is it normal? Is there anything I could do to reduce discomfort? I tried drinking water and resting but it gives only temporary relief. My other query is that recently I found that the baby has changed its timing of movement...before it used to be active during breakfast and evening tea time. BUT now it is active during lunch and right when I try to go to sleep...I don't feel kicks any more..I just feel the baby move...is that a concern? I really hope to hear from you, Archie. Your advice really means a lot.

Hi Archie! First of all congrates as you r expecting ur first baby.I am also having my first pregnancy and in 35th week ...according to my knowledge I am also feeling the same discomfort of tightening of muscles and heard from all other experienced mothers that they are nothing but practise contractions...if they r really in higher intensity and frequency i.e, if u feel them every 10minutes along with mestrual like cramps in lower abdomin with a pinch of back ache ...then they should be considered as real labour pains...other wise you just try to relax doing something interesting or eating something drink water and rest on ur left side ....it can help to temporarily alliviate the discomfort ...but this is all worth having a baby very soon in ur hands... just don't forget every expecting mother will have to undergo all these feelings...GOOD LUCK Bhanu

hi dear
i may not be able to give an expert advice like archie...but i just want to tell u that i too am facing the same concerns and discomfort, i spoke to my gynae, and told him that altho i do feel movements but i do not feel the kicks...
my dr assured me that everything was ok but since this is a precious pregnancy and i was too anxious he asked me to get an NST done...the test came out very normal and i was assured by all present there that there was absolutely no problem...
for the tightening i would like to tell you that you should be doing some kegel's excercises...and should consult some physiotherapist for the same...ever since i went ot one...my discomfort has decreased a lot......
all the best!

Thank you, archie...for taking the time to write to me. So, in other word, the feeling that something is going to come out...is also braxton hicks...Gosh, I feel so much better...Archie, I had my last ultrasound done on the 24th week..they did not tell me the weight of the baby. I asked the nurse whether they would do another ultrasound towards the end but they said unless there is a complication, they would not be doing another ultrasound. CAn i ask them that I want another ultrasound done? I have a doc.'s app. on AUg. 11th. Can she tell me the weight of the baby by looking at the fundal height. Thanks so much for all your advice...it means a lot..

hello,
fundal height would not tell the weight of baby. However, with an experience your OB could guess the weight when s/he while examining you.

you can request an ultrasound in case you don't deliver on edd. If you are in India they may not do an ultrasound unless complication arises. However if you are in USA then you will have chance to go through one more ultrasound between 34th and 37th week, if your insurance covers the expenses.

hello,
your discomfort is valid and fair at your gestation stage. it's also due to bhc like tightening of tummy.
fetal movements would be changed. And you may not feel very small movements, kicks only can be felt as movements, this is because the uterus is crowded and your fetus has limited space.
Have you an idea if your baby is over 3.5 pounds? Let me know your last ultrasound data on baby weight.

if the movements are not felt on time at all then you should be worried. Also if the movements go very mild almost neglegible then also it's good to get a NST done.
