My daughter also had Eczema. My doctor suggested to use Eucerin cream ..that helped her tremendously. I used to put that cream after I bath her in the monring and evenings. If you see her scratching then apply it more often.

Hi There,

All my children suffered with eczema. Here are some tips that helped us.

Don' t use soap because it dries the skin, you can get specially formulated products for this purpose but SORBOLENE CREAM is just as good and much cheaper. It doubles as a moisturizer which is VERY improtant with eczeme because it is a dry skin condition. Use thicker creams on flakey skin but for the most part sorbolene will serve all your needs.

Don' t encourage scratching at the site. I know your baby is a bit young yet for this to be a problem but get into the habit of not allowing him to scratch. Corticosteroids will be prescribed by your doc if the problem is too bad. We used a mixture of 2/3 aqueous cream and 1/3 Sigmacort (hydrocortisone acetate cream)on our childrens skin twice a day minimum and it was very rare any more eczema rashes flared up again.

worried mom, what you need to find out is if your daughter is allergic to any foods, environment(like soaps, oils, creams that she might be using). Your doctor can help you with this. The good news is since she is only 6 months it would be fairly easy for the doct to point out where the problem lies.

Now eczema is a dry skin condition which is caused by the immune system of the baby reacting to certain allergens. So, the condition must not only be contained from the outside(use of good moisturizers, any steroidal creams etc..) but must be prevented from the inside as well. For ex) my daughter too had this condition and this yr particularly it started getting worse. We got in touch with a skin specialist and now here' s what we are doing for our daughter:

1. stopped using scented detergents to wash her clothes. Turns out some kids are allergic to scents used in the detergent.
2. Stopped giving her regular organic cow' s milk that we used to give her. She is now on Soya milk.
3. We use yogurt that we make at home and not the one from the store anymore. The one from store has whey protein in it and some kids could be allergic to that.
4. Stopped giving her eggs b' cos we notice her eczema appear every time we gave her eggs. So, avoid all kinds of protiens in her diet(milk, eggs, whey etc..) and see if there is any improvement. For small babies it is hard for them to digest protien and that' s the logic behind this.
5. We give her bath twice a day with lukewarm water and do not use any kind of soaps for the bath. Soap acts as a irritant and if the baby is generally in a clean env then there is no need to use soap.
6. We use a very gentle cleanser to rub her while bathing and then use a towel and pat her dry(do not rub the towel too hard on their skin). Immediately before she loses the moisture from her body, we apply a thick moisturizing cream all over her body.

Following all of the above has gotten us very good results. Also when her skin becomes really irritable the doc has prescribed a steroidal cream, which we apply and then continue with the moisturizing cream. Once the affected area heals we stop the prescription medication and continue with the rest. Hope this helps you understand eczema a little better. Good luck.
