I am a breastfeeding mother as well. My child is just about four months now. According to everything I've read, breastfeeding will burn approximately 500 calories a day. You want to make sure you eat enough so that your body does not have to suck the nutrients out of you to feed the baby. If you want to lose weight, you need to make sure your intake of fat is low. I had gained 40 lbs when I was pregnant and have lost 38 of them now. I have found that eating every 3 hours is a must and to make sure I have protein at every meal. I don't know if you eat meat, but I eat chicken breast or some kind of fish everyday. I also eat a lot of fruits and vegetables (try for 6 or so a day). I do still eat some junk food but limit to just a small amount. Serving sizes do matter - if you have meat it should be no larger than a deck of cards, other things (ie rice) should be no bigger than your fist. Eat as many fruits/veggies as you want. I find I am hungry a lot, so instead of filling up on junk, I make sure it's something healthy. Also, get at least 30 minutes of exercise a day - alternate with weights and cardio. One last thing, don't eat anything two to three hours before you go to bed (it will just turn to fat because you're not burning any calories).Hope that helps.
