I have got some info regarding visting visas for parents and thought I can share with you all. Now a days, consulate started calling for interview itseems. If they apply for Visa in June first week, they are getting interview date in August 1st week. I got this news from four different people. Looks like Visa process have become tight due to student visas at this period.

Just wanted to let you know if you are planning to apply for Visa now, make sure you have sufficient time for this interview period also.

hai bhargavi and anu,

yes it is mandatory to have interviews before getting ur visa stamped.I am not sure whether it is only in Chennai consulate or all the other consulates., but it seems that if u apply now, u get the interview date sometime in sep.so please try to apply for visas as soon as possible.and if u know the interview date, try to block the tickets also, coz the last time i heard all the flights r booked till aug end(i.e) flights to detroit.
one good news is that if ur parents r above 60 then they neednt go for interviews, they just have to use the drop box facility,which is faster.

u can ask ur parents to block their interview dates on net and not wait till they get confirmation for recipt of their papers from the consulate.

Thank you Sumana for this information. Unfortunately both my parents are under 60 and they still didnot apply for Visa. My Dad will be going to TTC service and drop their application there today. I shall hope for the best.

You are right, We should think about flight tickets also. Thank you once again for confirming about this interview.

Which counsulate are u talking abt?
I know people who got Visa this week in just 15dys or so that too by post and no interview at Chennai. Also they gave 10yr Multiple Entry first time itself.
Pls let me know if u heard abt this in Chennai/Mumbai also was there anything wrong with papers or somethign why did they call for interview

I am taking about Chennai consulate. There is nothing wrong in the papers, everything was perfect. Still they called my friend's parents for interview. Not sure if this has become mandatory for all or only for some people. I was tensed as my parents are planning to apply this week.
