Dear Sneha,

During pregnancy one should concentarate more on nutritious food. The quality matters not the quantity. Therefore convince your MIL. Regarding weight gain don't bother as while you breast feed you will definately shed weight. The post delivery food helps to regain back the nutritional requirement of the body which is beneficial in later stage.
So don't worry. Be happy that you have a caring MIL.

Hi Sneha,

As said by JS it is wonderful idea to have your husband and Mother In Law accompanied you while next visit to Dr. This is the best way to let her know what's good for you.

Your mother-in-law is true partly but not absolutely. She probably is following her old fashioned style and trust more on that. Ghee is needed but of course the amount she recommend is off the limit and your Dr. will explain in more depth.

Eating dry fruits and certain ingredient is essential to recover your body nutrient loss from pregnancy and also to provide in natural form while you nurse new born. Again Dr. should comment on this too.

About you worrying on weight: it's perfectly normal to get concerned on this aspect. At the same time you should be informed at this very stage that you will not only loose all the weight you gained in pregnancy but you may also loose few kgs in a week after you deliver baby. This is one reason old fashion include heavy diet. However, as long as you decide to continue to stick with balanced nutritious diet than forcing in one month to recover.
Hope this helps

Hi,
I'm not very sure that its necessary to take so much ghee. Its always a good idea to have a well-balanced nutritous food, especially when u r pregnant. Fat is also required, but I suppose 5 kgs is a little too much. And avoiding fruits I don't think so. Its not just about ur gaining too much weight. You can lose it when u want it. But there are other health factors that u should consider.

Maybe u take ur Mil along with u on ur next doctor's appointment. And put this Q in front of her. Let her also listen what the doc says. Have ur hubby too so he would be able to explain better to his mom.

Should a single man live with his mum in India?
I am a man in my late 40s and I have lived abroad in USA for the past two decades. I never had any interest in marrying or having kids so I never married. Recently my Dad passed away and my mother will be alone. I have made enough money to retire comfortably but because I am used to the American lifestyle I can't live in India.
