Due Date Club October 2003:Tantrums?

Hi everyone

Anyone face tantrums from babies yet? Anu has started, though doesn't last long. Generally is becoz she wants to open the door with our keys or we take away things she manages to get which may hurt her, not gone long though, she checks in between if we r looking :)) and starts again. so if we make fun of her she forgets..not too good at faking yet.
still not sure if she knows when we say something, friends at work say they do after a year, got her first smack, when she tried to lick the dishwasher soap bowl..couldn't stop it any other way or faster by just saying no. she gave me an angry look, didn't cry or anything, went to papa..:) and started playing..i kept going hugging and she was fine..wonder if she understood anything.
Any of u going thru? tried ignoring, it does work but its pain to the ears. like diverting more than ignoring.all say get worse between now till 3 and have seen friends kids..good and worst..i hope all r milder..esp for moms pregnant now.
Take care.
Radhika

Hi radhika,

Kaustubh started throwing tantrums long back.First used to completely ignore him, waited for him to come around. But now ignoring does not work.He does gets smacking from me, a lot to say.But nowadays he just runs away whenever i get near him, or see him doing something. And one more thing he has learnt recently is that, if I am angry at him, he comes to me gives me a kiss and hug and smiles , so that I too smile at him and forget about his punishment.
Kids teach us a lot of things....surprising

take care,
sumana

Hi Radhika
yes Ayush started it sometime back.Sometimes it gets real difficult handling him specially at public places.
But believe me its tough but sometimes ignoring does help. But make sure that they are not near anything dangerous as Ayush sometimes throws his head back or himself on the ground during these episodes.I have seen scolding them or smacking them(though I do this most often..bad me ) doesn't work always but rather talking to them slowly looking in the eye helps.
I have seen often ignoring his demands like him wanting to have chips helps as he yells and cries and then goes on doing something else. But always being a mother its not always possible to ignore,if i see his tears can't resist picking him up and that kinda didn't help at all in tantrums .
