my baby's morning stool is very hard
she makes faces while passing stool
she becomes all red
it looks very dark and hard
i am not giving her any vitamins
why is it so dark?
she is completely formula fed
what can i do to ease her stool?

I may sound little wierd or out dated on this but this is tried and tested. When your baby's stool is hard it comes out and hurts the entire area it (anus). Take little mustard oil on your finger and put it inside the anus. It does not have any side effects rather it heals the area quickly after one or two days and thereafter the stool comes out smoothly. I do this regularly with my daughter. I am not too sure of doc's opinion on this but I generally do this. You may check with your mom too they I guess will be aware of this.

My daughter's stool is also very dark and hard sometimes. Gerber prune jars really help her sometimes. I think the dark color is because of iron in cerial and formula.
