I have posted this on april 07 message board a couple of days back but no one has responded so i thought of posting my querries here as well

Hi,
i am almost 11 weeks pregnant now. have started settling down now after having initial few weeks of stomack cramps, indigestion and nausea tendencies.
I am never much fond of brown breads and somehow always prefer white breads on brown becoz of the taste. A part of my diet includes atleast 4-5 slices of breads as my breakfast and lunch together coz i am working and i prefer having sandwiches over rice during office hrs. I want to know is white bread anyway harmful for me or the baby? i have read somewhere that fortified white bread is good. Now i dont know the bread i take is fortified or not coz nothing is written over there. but if its harmful or doesnt have any nutritional value then i dont mind switching to brown breads as well. Otherwise am trying to have a healthy diet with carbs and proteins.

2) is having processed cheese slices anyways harmful for me/baby?
i am fond of sandwiches and i do at times add a slice of cheese very small amt thought on my breads just to make it a bit tasty.
am not sure whether i sud have it or not.. searching on the net i found some saying ok some saying not..

If anyone can clear my doubt then that will be great
Thanks

Hi,
I don't think that white bread would harm the baby. But brown bread has fibre which will help keep you stomach clear and prevent constipation, which is a typical prob in pregnancy. So it will be ideal to switch to brown bread, especially since you are having so much of it. A slice of brown bread is as good as a roti. Processed cheese should be ok but pl be careful and put cheese sandwiches in the fridge in office to avoid any bacterial decomposition. Infact you can use ingredients like chutney, sauce, etc if you want to avoid cheese. eating processed cheese straight from fridge is fine.
All the best.
