Due Date Club December 2004:Dal/rice and Kichdi

Hi all,

I have seen most of you saying that you are feeding rice and daal and kichdi to your little ones. Can anybody please tell me how to prepare kichdi and how to feed rice and daal? Which rice and which daal? When can I start it to my baby?

Thanks
mom

Hi,

Her Ped said do not use blender instead you may give an extra wistle.
as this will help child to eat coarse things as well. If you will introduce him or her some hard food later it will help the baby to take it easily. They will not vomit out.

hope this helps.

hi,

This is how I prepare mine, just like ours. I mix moong dal + rice in small vessel, then wash/rinse it with warm water, add little turmeric + extra water and pressure cook it.

Once u remove it from cooker, mash it with spoon or blender and add little curd and/or ghee and give it to the baby. You can also add little veggies with it if you'd like (peas, beans, potato, tomato etc). In case of dal, just like shivani said, pressure cook toor dal, mash it, add it with cooked rice and curd and give it to her. Just add extra water + extra whistle so that they get cooked properly (don't get hard on their stomach).

Mom,

How old is ur little one. You can give moong dal khichdi as earli as 6 months. If she is 6 months old u have to roast moong dal and rice and make powder. This powder u can store and make khichdi whenever u want to feed. If she is already 9 months u can simply mix rice( any rice which we use everyday) and moong dal ,soak for sometime and cook in pressure cooker. Add salt little turmeric powder and ghee. For dal and rice u can use tuver dal ( initially water only) and rice. Cook it in cooker and grind.

Hi There!

I am giving moog dhuli dal khichadi properly cooked. I also give her moong dal itself at time mix it with curd. For feeding we really have to make all efforts. earlier I used to make her lie down and used to sit towards her head and make her eat. but from past two days my MIL says now she doesn't lie down at all. When ever she is making her feed she gets up on her own. Probably this weekend I will have to find out a new alternative for her. Lets see how we work it out.

Hope this clarifies.
