Waiting to try:regestrone for irregular cycle

we started planning a kid 3-4 months back and since then my periods have been irregular, with a variation of between 3-7 days. The doc advised me to take regestrone since it may be a case of polycystic ovarian syndrome that she suspects (though not quite evident in scan & there is only a likelihood). She adviced that this regestrone when taken between 14-23rd day of my cycle twice everyday, will make my period come, a week after i stop this. She also said that from next cycle she will put me on mild tablet like clomid to concieve. How safe is it to medicate myself with regestrone. My periods have been regular in the past, only the last few cycles where we started trying, has been erratic. Is it ok to follow her advice and take regestrone because my mind is telling me to wait it out for next 3-4 cycles and try for ourselves. I am overweight, am 28 and am working out an trying to diet to reduce weight also. Pls advice on what is the right way to try and concieve, for my case.

you are talking many things at a time and tought to deal with, but lets see how we do here.

dieting, to control weight would have an impact on your cycles.

try to use OPK while going to exercise but avoid dieting, eat balanced meal rather. I would suggest to plan intercourse according to OPK results and wait for 20 days from positive OPK to reveal if you get pregnant or not.

being overweight in itself sometime can be tought for you to get pregnant.

some fluctuation can occure after taking off the birth control or seriously trying to conceive but not for repeated cycles. You may want to see thyroid levels as another point along with PCOS, which your Dr. suspects.

You may avoid regestrone but no trouble using Clomid. Still in my opinion you have not given time before investingations. You should have waited at least a year before getting on to all these tests and treatment. It's normal to take a year or so to get pregnant.

thks for the prompt reply. It really rests my concerns. I checked thyriod levels using blood tests and the doc says its okay. I am 5 2' and weigh 70kgs.
I do mild workouts in the morning for 30-45 mins, and same in the evening. I do not starve during dieting. I eat fruits and juices, and some spinach and pulses. I avoid rice, chapathis etc and any fatty stuff that i usually dont keep track of, that's all.
because we just tried for 3 months, do you think I should wait for a few more months before trying regestrone even though the doc advised it now ? Also since she suspects PCOS, do you think waiting will cause it to worsen my chances of getting pregnant.
My husband is out of station now for a month and will return end of august, meanwhile what do u advise i do ? Sorry for long mails, I want to make sure i include all factors.
