Due Date Club January 2007:VBAC Confused- Archie please help

Hi, I am due on the 15th Of January and live in turkey. I had my daughter who is 4 and a half in India. I had a c-section, follwoing fetal distress when i was induced. I was only two days overdue.
Here too the doctor thinks I will have a c-section. However I met a german mid wife yesterday and she says there is no reason for me to go for a planned c- section and there are a few doctors here who would at least try their best for a normal delivery or VBAC in my case if the other fators remain the same.

I was scheduled for the c-section on the 8th of Jan. Howver I am really confused and would ideally want a VBAC. Would like to know from anybody who has had both.
Archie I know has had a VBAC ,your pros and cons.. and what would you do..Recovery time between both. Maybe to attempt the VBAC I need to change my doctor.ALso the doctor I am seeing now.. is a very busy one .. so Maybe it is in his interest to schedule a c- section than wait and help with a normal delivery.

Could you please help me.... by giving in your inputs.

Nitasha,
If your daughter was born through C-section and the reason was fetal distress, which is like abnormal fetal heart rate then most likely you can go for \" trial of labor (TOL)\" , which is nothing but VBAC trial.

If some Drs. are there in Turkey who are willing to offer patient with TOL there definitely it's not OB/GYN guidelines that C-section must follow C-section.

I think you should rethink of elected C-section.

If you are strong about VBAC then there is nothing wrong in waiting for natural labor onset. Remember however to take an ultrasound in 40th week to know size of baby as large babies tend to direct mother to operation theater in any event. If your baby is around 7 pounds and placenta is not deteriorating in 40th week then you can definitely wait for 2 more weeks.

You should however expect very little success if you were to induce or even agument labor with pitocin. Induction following C-section means no usages of prostaglandins and labor could be very long sometime leading to abnormal fetal heart rate and C-section. However, you will be happy that you wnet through TOL.

There is no need to comment on recovery time as Vaginal birth often is less troublesome to recover than C-section. I have had 3rd degress laceration while this time around but I don't mind compared to that of C-section.

weight all pros and consquences with ref to guidelines out there and if you can really find a Dr. who will take your case now for delivery.

I understand because of busy schedule your present physician might not be ready to risk for TOL.

Hi Archie,

Thanks a ton for the explanation. Spoke ot my doc again. he still says he does not recommend it and maybe I too am a bit scared now and not completely sure of the same.

I am 33 weeks pregnant now and the baby's weight was on the lower side on my last check up. However have another detailed ultrasound on friday. Hope the baby puts on some more weight. It was only 1776 grams at 32 weeks and 4 days.

I guess i should stop worrying and take the decision in the next couple of weeks.

My earlier baby was 7.5 pounds.. so I am a li concerned about the baby's weight. wil keep you posted ..

thanks for u detailed reply.
