i am 16 weeks pregnant. my query is about calcium intake.. till my second month i was having milk about 2 glasses a day..but since then i dont feel like even looking at it...have developed an aversion i guess..there's no such thing for any other food product...i have been having shelcal 500 mg from the 11th week onwards( twice a day)but i know it is only a supplement n it should be augmented with more calcium from dairy products...i know i can do so with curd n cheese also but i need some clarification
1. if i did not have a milk aversion, how much shud i be having at this stage of pregnancy? my gynae told me 2 litres!!! isnt that over the top?????
2. if i look at other options like curd and cheese only instead of milk, how much of it shud i be having?
i certainly cant have one litre of curd everyday!!!
3. wot are other good sources of calcium besides dairy products?
4. is processes cheese advisable or only cottage cheese?

pls plsa nswer ALL my questions..as i'm really feeling very very guilty about not giving my poor body wot it needs at its time of need!!!!!!!
thanx in advance...

Hi Ritu,
I hope u r doing fine. I am 8 months pregnant and due in 5 weeks. all this time i was only having low fat milk and that too I started after my 2oth week as i had terrible morning sickness. But I did eat Bananas,Paneer, cheese and fruit yogurt. And I never stopped taking my Calcium tablets. Dont worry about anything. and you can also take Fortified Soy milk rich in Multiple Vitamins and Calcium. I take that everyday. You dont have to drink plain white milk if u r having aversions now.
I hope this helps.... Take care and try to eat a banana a day.

diet during pregnancy
Maintaining a healthy diet during pregnancy is very important.

During this time, your body needs additional nutrients, vitamins and minerals.

In fact, you may need 350–500 extra calories each day during the second and third trimesters.

A diet lacking in key nutrients may negatively affect the baby’s development.
