This is Vasudev, 23 year old guy doing my PG in Kerala. I’m new to this site and I just went through the discussions regarding the ear piercing. As per our traditions I being a Brahmin boy had to perform chowla, the act of piercing the ear during my (upanayanam) thread wearing ceremony. But as I was stubborn then not to pierce the ear nobody forced me to do so. But now when I realized the importance of ear piercing I wish to do that. But I feel shy to speak about this to my parents. Could some one help me out? Please suggest me a way so that I can get this done.

I assume that your two postings (one on earpiercing and another on tonsure) are genuine.
I find it amusing that a boy of 23 feels shy to tonsure his head. Grow up! Some teasing and giggling will be there in any case. You should become bold enough to absorb such things if you want to live your own life and not others. If many girls and women get tonsured what is the big deal for a boy like you?
And for God' s sake get pierced both the ears and wear identical earstuds. The copy of the western fashion of piercing only one ear is not good.
Just tell your parents that you want to get your ears pierced and get yourself tonsured at Tirupati or Palani. That is the best way to handle it.
And then go ahead and execute it.
