Due Date Club July 2005:not walking independently

Hi everyone,

just venting it out. I know all babies are different. But Anushka still refuses to walk independently. She is 14 and half months old now. She walks great if i hold her one hand. But i guess she is just scared to try it all by herself. She is always looking for my hand now since she just wants to walk everywhere. And I am so tired of walking with her. She started to crawl late too....at 11 months. So i guess she will start her walking late too, but I am just exhausted.

Regards,
Sheetal

Hi Sheetal,

In all probability Anu is well and fine but at the same time I know all our words also may not give you satisfaction so better you go and show her to Ped and comeout with smile on your face.

Just to share, Adi started walking only during 12month where in I have kid next door who started walking in 9th month itself and running in next 2 month. But If I compare both, Adi is little heavier then next door kid so I convinced myself.

I agree with Suchie, you need to incourage her by various means.

Take care,
Sudha

My baby started walking at ~13 months. And I was also getting bit worried abt when she will start walking since she was cruising for a really long time(since 9 month). But then, one fine day when I made her stand, she was able to support herself for more than few secs. Then other day, when I made her stand in the middle of the room, she took her first steps.. So that is how she started walking.. though she took arnd 1 month after that to really start walking properly. Sheetal, I think that walking depends a LOT on your babies temperament.. My Nikku is very cautious, and also she is not someone who is interested in jumping and all. I dont think we can do anything to make kids walk faster.. they do when they want to. All you can do is make her walk a lot.. that way she will get her exercise. What we used to do was make her walk in Malls etc.. Also my husband used to take her for evening walks. But dont force her for anything. If she gets scared, then she will further delay it. So now it all depends on her confidence. And please dont worry abt it, considering what all you said, I think she will start walking in the next 1 month..

take care,
Bhairavi.

Sheetal

From your post, it seems Anushka is lil scared of walking independently.

I feel you should encourage her to walk small distance, initially just start with 1-2 steps. Sit next to her and move just lil distance away, open your arms and encourage her to take few steps towards you. Now she knows distance is less and there is mommy to hold her, she would try walking. May be you have to try this many times, initially you might have to hold her hand just to show what she needs to do. You can do same thing with your husband and you standing/ sitting in opposite direction to her and encourage her to cover small distance

When she takes even one step independently, pls don’t forget to appreciate it by hugging and clapping. It will motivate her. Definitely there is nothing to worry, she is just lil bit scared.

Suchie.

if your baby is not able to walk until 16months of age,its then its advisable to talk to your dr. otherwise, until then, no worries at all !
please note that there are no specific guidelines when it comes to physical developments but there are warning signs that drs expect their patients to talk and share about ! mostly thats how they decide whether a baby needs some supplmnts or tonics for its good devlpmnets.

dont worry sheetal, talk to your dr, some babies walk at rest, may be she needs a lil calcium boost or a supplmnt...and if thats the case, your dr should have already given you one or prob at her 15th month appointment, she might get one...only if your dr feels the need of it.
as far as your dr is not worried, you should not be worried.
and keep working with her,,i know its hard, but as mothers we just have to keep doing that,..we cant do much about it..
take care,love to anushka.

I know this is easier said the done but dont worry she just needs some confidence and will find her way then she will walk i think kids walk as late as 18 months sometimes.you can try a walker although my ped said no to this when i went abroad my parents put dylan in a walker and after that we saw alot of progress with him.

Breast pumps
I am using a medela pump to feed my baby when I am out. The medela breast pumps are really a good choice for the working moms. We can pump the milk regularly and can store it and use whenever needed.... - dalewhither [View Message]
evenflo elan breast pump
Buy this pump! It’s made my life so much easier. I always got sore with my old Medela Advanced, but that never happens with the Ameda Purely Yours Breast Pump. What really makes a difference is its ease of use. It’s really easy to switch between pumping phases and take apart to clean. Strongly recommend it for all mothers that pump daily.... - stellatylor [View Message]

try this
As we discussed earlier in this forum I used magnetic alphabets , through which he has learnt alphabets within a week. And number within 4 days.
It is as like take the letter and stick to it where ever he goes more and ask him to search a particular letter. this worked very well for me.
