Due Date Club October 2003:baby doesnot sleep thru the night!

hi,
My daughter has not yet learned to sleep through the night. She wakes up atleast once in the night even if we put her to bed late. Moerover her sleep gets over completely by 7 or so. Sometimes she wakes up even 2 times in the night and I have to feed her or she cries. Do you have any tips to manage this situation?
Pallavi

I am not sure what worked with anu, but she does go to bed everyday by 8/8:30 and wakes up by 5. She wakes us up too. :)
Gets up if its too hot or she has cold otherwise is fine...touch wood hope it doesn't change else i would be tired at work.
I don't know if routined life is helping her, but i take anu to the bedroom at around 8 and even if she has to play it will be in her crib with dimmed lights...she generally tends to want to go to sleep soon(but this case anu has never slept well during the day, she naps for 10-15 mins)
2. A humidifier helps, noise i think she likes..
3. Noticed she is more comfortable sleeping on her tummy
4. I pat her if she wakes up and she goes back to sleep.
Do not try the ferber method..think u have to not be a mom to see ur baby cry endlessly..I have read another story which seems sensible..and i had tried in the 3rd month, i.e to do have the same rotuine before bedtime, rock them/feed them to sleep and everytime she cries when u put them in the crib u pick them up, when they stop put them back..u need a lot of patience but has worked for many moms in a few days time.
i would try naps in the noons first at a certain time and then nights later on so they get used to the routine.I thought it sounded silly..but it does work, babies learn fast...and regular patterns they recognize very fast..
after 5 if anu feels sleepy i wake her up after 10-15 mins..so she can sleep later on time..think all the activiy in day care and even weekends crawling, moving around makes her tired..and she has no energy to keep eyes open by night..esp with no sleep whole day.
hope it helps..its tiring with no sleep..initially i would yawn whole noon at work..:)
Take care
Radhika

Hi Pallavi

I think your daughter has much better schedule of sleeping thru the night. Nitya wakes up 7-8 times and sometimes stays awake for a couple of hours. Sometimes she wants to be fed, sometimes, rocked, & sometimes fed, & sometimes everything. I will be glad if i can get Nitya to this schedule of waking up only 1-2 times. When she is awake she doesn't want to be in the crib, i get her to bed with me, but she doesn't lie down there & she starts playing, pulls our(my & my husband's) hair, opens our eyes etc..
I spoke to the doc about it in her last appointment, he says its normal for babies age 6-12 months. He suggested me to try the Ferber's method, but haven't really got the courage to try that. I am hoping this to get better when she turns a year old.
Hope anybody replies with some good suggestions.

Manisha
