Waiting to try:Please advice Archie and others!!!

Hi all!

I was a active member of the expecting parents message board for a year one year back and now having a 14 month old baby.

I had irregular cycles and was diagnosed of early PCOS.I was on Clomid(very low dosage we started with) for 6 months and concieved 7th month on Clomid.I had a very healthy pregnancy, normal delivery and having the cutest baby.I have been exclusively breastfeeding the baby from past 14 months and the baby doesn't take any other milk. For the baby to have solids properly,I have decreased milk feeding to one in the daytime and nighttime feedings r usually 2-3.I haven't got my periods yet. When I called my Gynec, she told me not to worry as it is common not to get periods when one is breastfeeding. My question is when can we plan for our second baby?I am planning to feed my baby for another 3-4 motnhs atleast. So shud we wait for my periods and then try for second one?Is it okay not to have periods havinmg such history?Shud I go on Clomid again to have second baby or try naturally???

These questions have been bugging me day and night as we want to have second baby by the time our first one is 3.Please help!!!

Hey,
I am going thru the same thing as you. I have an almost 13mth old and she relies on my milk. She eats other stuff but does not want much. She is also thin. We are trying for our 3rd one without weaning and it is not going anywhere although we started only this month. I have no idea when ovulation is. I havent gotten my period, yet, and therefore there is noway of knowing when to expect Ovulation. Oh well, I guess just keep on bding and maybe it will happen. I might wean the baby in a couple of mths and then try. Like you said, it is going to be an adventure.
With my son I stopped feeing right around 18mths and it was a struglle for a week but we made it thru.
Goodluck!

Aish,
first of all you don't expect to get normal cycles before discontinuing nursing. It might be tough to wean baby especially when fed for 14 months exclusively on breast and that has not been into any other food. This also suggest you must have high levels of prolactin which works against ovulation and might be the reason for not getting periods.
Some gets as early as 5 weeks postpartum while a few takes months to years to get period after childbirth, all cases are normal.
you can only plan second baby after getting your 2-3 periods, while you will understand cycle pattern.

This all boils down to wean baby and get baby trained with other types of food, which might be a adventure for you now.

Hi Archie!

Thanks a bunch for ur sincere advice! It was such a great relief to read ur reply.Yeah,it's going to be a exciting advenure and challenge for me to wean my baby at this age.
My baby eats all veggies, fruits, spicy food but very very less quantities. She relies more on my milk. She eats only one meal a day even though I am not nursing her daytime these days.Doc says not to worry as she is healthy though thin.

Thx for ur support and hopefully shud have no problem having second baby!!!
Thx again to Archie and Kerry!!!

Hi, I didn't have pcos but I needed clomid for my first child and fell 2nd month. Then after trying for a second child I took clomid for three months and nothing happened. The next month I took a break and fell naturally. As far as I am aware breastfeeding usually keeps your period on hold till you stop feeding. However every person is different. I have heard of some women falling pregnant when reducing their feeds gradually. Myself I stopped when my baby was six months and had my next period within 6 weeks. Timing pregnancies is difficult cause it often doesn't happen when you choose however I truly believe after trying so long myself and also knowing others who tried for years that once you get pregnant others have fallen into place easily soon afterwards. Both friends of mine had three years of trying for a baby then one went on ivf the other was about to start ivf and got pregnant naturally. The next pregnancies for them were a shock as it was unexpected and took nothing to happen. Both fell within 6-9 months of the last baby. The body is very mysterious. I look back now at my struggles and believe it all happened this way for a reason even at the time I felt hopeless. I hope this helps.
