I am a first time mom from the feb 2007 board living in usa..I visit this board quite often and know how active it has been ...I had a question for you girls and hoping can help...I will soon be shopping for baby and things needed...I was wondering if you guys could tell me 5 to 10 most useful things to buy which will be helpful in the first yr after baby arrives...it could be anything eg..type of bottles, a certain stroller, baby gym etc..anything that you'll hv used and feel that helps a lot and is good value for money..

Congrats. I really apprecite you asking the list of things you need for the baby. Because being a first time mom we never know what we need and sometime we end up buying many stuff which is not at all necessary. Well here is the list of the basic things you need for the first year.
1. travel system
2. since yours is a winter baby sleep and play( full dress) you don't have to worry about putting socks.
3. nursery care kit(includes thermometer, clipper, nasal syringe, etc)
4. hooded towels
5. diaper genie
6. bouncer is very useful, i used it for my son till he was one year.
7.bath tub
8. gripe water, ask someone to get it from India.
9.baby monitor
10. if u r going to bottle feed ur baby, 4 0z and 6 oz bottles
11.bib, wash cloth, receiving blanket
The rest u can buy after the baby is born( depends on the need)
Some say that we don't have to buy diaper also, as the hospital will provide and you can buy later.

some additions,since we are having winter babies, vicks baby rub is great to have !!
a couple woollen clothes(pref with head cover,,not more,1 of same size, 1 of bigger),wool socks or booties..
and if you plan to breastfeed,have a good nursing cover..go for the one that is 100% cotton but has a liner in it or is double layered with net on the top,so that your baby stays cosy and also you can view him from the net !!

We moms had created this list when we were pregnant. This list contains hospital and baby list.
In baby list I have marked required things with ***

Please don’t buy too many dresses, they outgrow very fast.
I always carried print out of this list when I was shopping, so that shdnt miss anything :-)
