Infertility Solutions:how to avoid malpractice?

i want to know, how can i avoid malpractice? how do we know that how many eggs were really retrieved by doctor? can we simply trust them? i think IVF institutes attached to the hospitals are more trust-worthy than private set up since doctors in big institutes can not maniputate as doctors are kept only on salary basis. whereas in private IVF clinic, doctors are not answerable since there is no authority in india to check and regulate so they can easily fool the ivf patients stating that only 3 eggs retrived or 4 eggs retrieved and our balance eggs might be using for someone as doner eggs and earning money. please advise how to avoid this. For example, when we had treatment for my sister, it was told by doctor that only 4 eggs are retrived but harmonal assay and sonography was showing approx. more than 20 eggs. so its frightening experience to visit any doctor and trust him. please advise how this can be avoided.

Hi sonal, i have been referred for ART but i have a lot of concerns about the safety and accuracy of the process e.g how can we ensure that there is no ' mix up' in the lab- what if an assistant wrongly mixes some other man' s sample with my eggs during the IVF? what if my extra eggs or my husband' s sperms are sold by unscruplous employees of the hospital (see the article in the times of india dtd Dec 12, 2006 titled ‘Compromised semen’ racket unearthed)

Most of us heard about medical practice acts and the people who are affected. First, the physicians, and next the nurses. But they are not the only health providers that can be accused.

Basically, medical malpractice is negligence committed by a health care professional, whose performance of duties depart from the standard of care of those with similar training and experience. Most medical malpractice actions are filed against health providers who have failed to utilize reasonable care to treat a patient.

I understand how you feel sonal chatterjee. You want to shun medical malpractice to occur because IVF is a risky procedure and you want a competent and efficient health provider to do it. Try to visit this site: Medical Mistakes -- A Primer on the Basics of Medical Malpractice. It was an informative article written by Mr. Haskell, a famous lawyer in Spokane WA who' s won more than a few million dollar cases. That will supplement you with substantial information about medical issues, and will widen your horizons about medical malpractice.
