This is Arun. I am 25 yrs old.
Actually my ear piercing is not yet done. I am based out of coimbatore. My parents are planning to do my ear piercing shortly so that it will not be a problem during my marraige. It is a tradition in my family that every boy child should complete the ear piercing before the marraige.
I dont know what to do. If i say no, my mom is saying that \" if u dont agree now, then this will be done on the day before ur marraige. Is tat ok for you\" . I am in a dilemma now.
As you all know being a guy of 25 yrs old, how painful it is going to be for me to do the ear piercing.
Can anyone pls advise me about any medicine or ointments that can be applied during ear piercing so that i will not feel any pain?? Is there any shops in coimbatore that does the painless ear piercing.?? I hear that there are gun shots..But will that be painful? Is that available in coimbatore.?
I dont know if i have to put mottai also along with this. I am not concerned if my mom asks me to put mottai..tats not a problem at all. I can happily go and sit for that. But i am not sure if that is required.
I am really confused on this ear piercing only. Your advise is much appreciated.

finally my ear piercing is done in one of the temples nearby.
The exp was really funny.
My parents told tht shud shave my head. There was no other go. I agreed to it finally. I told my mom not to invite a lot of crowd. Just 10 max shud b fine. She told ok. I went to home the day before this function. To my Admonishment, almost 40 ppl r the at home smiling at me. It was horrifying for me. But I had no other go. They all have come there leaving all their work just for me. So I controlled myself. I was restless the whole night.
Next day early in the morning they woke me up at around 5. I was told to take head bath. I did so. Then they called me and when I came to the temple, I was surprised to see everyone there ready for me.
I came into the temple. There was some pooja conducted for my name. Then the preist came to me and poured some water on my head and told u r ready. Then my mom came to me and \" dei. Common\" . I was feeling so bad. Just near the entrance of the temple, there was the tonsuring area. Everyone was waiting for me there. Think of my position. I have built up some courage as there was no other go and I am doing it for god only. So I walked boldly and sat infront of the bArber. He greeted and asked me to sit with banian. I did so. I just closed my eyes And sat and ready for anything. He poured water to my head and started massaging. Then one complete head is wet, he started to play with his razor. He started from the middle of the head. Finally in two min my hair is no more. Then he wet my face and shaved my beard and mush. Then he wet my arm pits and shaved them also. Once I got up from there, everybody started lAughing at me on seeing my new look. Then I went and took bAth and I wAs given a new dress to wear. I did so
then comes the actual scene. When I entered the Hal in the temple, everybody were gathered there and there was a goldsmith sitting readily in the center. Then also everybody was laughing on seeing me. On top of that, my mom applied sandal paste on my head. So walked cooly and sat in front of all. I had no other go. Already tonsured. There is no point in resisting now. So sat cooly now. He asked me if he can start with the process of piercing. My mom told yes.
Then he took a pen and marked two points in the ears. Then he took some sandal And rubbed over to my ears. Then he took the nose and inserted that into the stud. He Asked me to sit straight wijthout shouting. Them he took the stud to my ears and he pierced my right ear first. I couldn' t belive it. I did not exp any pain. I was sitign simply and my one eAr is done. Then he did the same for another ear and the piercing is complete.
I was very happy since I thought it wud pain a lot and nothing happened. So I was very happy. My neice brought a mirror and asked me to have a look. I cudnt beleive my eyes. I was horrible to look at with bald head and earrings.
Finally I was happy in one sense. My parents were satisfied because of this. So I was happy
Then I removed the studs in the evening itself.
The next day I went to office And everybody were making fun of me seeing my bald head and I did not tell them that I pierced my ears
after a week it was life as usuAl and now Almost one inch of hair hAs grown

This is Harish, 23 year old guy doing my PG in Kerala. I’m new to this site and I just went through the discussions regarding the ear piercing. As per our traditions I being a Brahmin boy have to perform the act of chowla, the act of piercing the ear when my upanayanam, thread wearing ceremony was performed. But as I was stubborn then not to pierce the ear nobody forced me to do so. And it’s not a must that it should be done before the marriage as Arun said. But now when I realized the importance of ear piercing I wish to do that. But I feel shy to speak about this to my parents. Could some one help me out?Pleaseeeeeeeee

THATS A GOOD IDEA OF GOING TO PALANI THEIR ALSO THE FUNCTION CAN BE DONE ITS VGUD TO PERFORM THEIR AND U CAN ALSO COMPLETE UR VOWS ALSO SIMULTANIUSLY.I HAD JUST BEEN TO PALANI ALSONG WITH MY FAMILY AND COMPLETED OUR VOW I AND MY WIFE HAD A HEAD SHAVE SHE HAD A VOW TO COME AND HAVE A SHAVE ALONG WITH MY WE ACTUALLY PLANNED FOR UR KIDS BUT THEIR WERE NOT COMPLETED 9MONTHS ALSO THEY HAVE JUST COMPLETED 6MONTHS SO AT THEIR NINTH MONTH WE R PLANNING TO HAVE ONCE AGAIN.. anand replied. H r u? Yes offcourse u ill be able to bear the pain thats for the kids they are small so theyscream a lot so for u it ill not be a problem. How is not the correct question? because wearing the earings or studs for a long period because its been provide santifically that its very gud to have holes in the ears... i am sorry i don' t know ur from which cast if u know brahmins r all vintelegents because they have hole in the ears and they do wear the ear rings which is offcourse very good for ur health also then its up to u. As per the guidens give to us by all the elder people and the head presit of our temple said that its not the matter of age of a person its a rule that u have to have a shave before the piercing is done and its a matter of a month ur hairs is going to grow its a kind a request pls don' t put the religous functions in a delay and don' t postpond such function its a kind request from our end and also told by people the other thing is that once u keep this function a day before ur marriage u ill be having a pain suppose u ill not be able to enjoy ur wedding and all other people ill be upset for u so as per my opinion pls complete it at the earliest and finsh it then its up to u pls keep updated.

anand indian replied. i can tell you about my daughter' s experience when she was 9 months months old..

doctors do it too. (check with any good ent hospitals) .. they have the so called gun shot facility... here you have two options they have a set of studs which are sertilised else you can have yours but they should be sterilised. this is to avoid infections..but your a 25 so i doubt this \" infection\" factor may not arise.

This is also done by goldsmits.. they too have these gun shot' s..you can check with kalyan' s, kumaran' s etc..

there are certain sities that have \" ear piercing center' s exclusively for this purpose.

i was told there is a spray or an oinment to give numness... check with good medical shops like alamu medicals etc... anand replied. HI Arun
I am anand from bangalore for my brother also we had done it very recently he is elder than u he is abt 28yrs old for him we had done it with a regular goldsmit before that the elders at home asked him to have a shave which is complulosry after the shave the goldsmit did his piercing which ill pain a little but u ill be able to bare i am sorry i don' t know abt these thinks in coimbatore if its available or no but u can go for a gun short any ways all the best and pls update once u complete...
