Hi Archie,
I am Roshni from September 2006 board. I am due in first week of september, and planning to go to India in late october or early november. Please let me know what is the procedure of getting baby's passport and how long does it take to get the PIO and Passport?
I will appreciate if you could explain this.

after obtaining your babys birth certificate you have to get her social security no., then you can apply for her passport.
to get the social security no. quickly it is better to apply it through the social security office instead of applying it through the hospital.

Roshni,
It will take at least 2 weeks from birth registration to get a birth certificate.
With birth certificate you can apply for passport at postoffice, will take about 4-6 weeks.
I think with birth certificate original or affidivated, notarized birth certificate copy you can apply for PIO card, can take 2-3 week.
If all goes well then you are likely to get all the deals sealed in as long as 8-11 weeks.
