Health Concerns:gestation diabetes

I am confused my doctor says I have gestation diabetes, I am 32 weeks now and the doctor says my baby weighs about 4 pounds. Everything that I have seen on websites state that gestational diabetes tends to make the babies large, yet my baby is small. I don't know what to think, and it is too late to find another doctor, not to mention the money. Help, Can anyone shed some light on this for me?

Aloha Jane! The weight of your baby is actually normal even with the gestational diabetes. I too had that with my first child and weight was also about the same as yours. One thing to remember though, is that the last few weeks of your pregnancy is when your baby will gain most of its weight. This is common, even without having gestational diabetes. Dont worry too much. I know thats a hard thing too do, but if something was truly wrong, youre Dr. will know about it and how to work or fix it. I hope this has been of some help!

Dear Jane,
I am a little surprised with your estimates. A 4 pound baby at 32 weeks is not a small baby at all! Where did you learn this from?

If I am correct your baby will be 8 pound or around when born at the estimated due date.

Your baby is not macrosomic or underweight. Take things easy and control on your carbohydrate intake that's the only way I would recommend.
