Due Date Club October 2003:Bending and Standing

Hi Girls
I am scared to bend often or even stand for more than 30 min or go up and down the stairs at home(which is unavoidable for me). I feel that I can feel the baby or feel something solid inside when I bend... I feel maybe I am putting pressure on the baby while bending, I am so scared.... Its impossible to not bend at all while cooking, also standing for more than 30 min is also very tiring these dys.
I kind of rearranged the whole kitchen so that I dont have to bend for anything... still something falls down, or u have to take something from
lower rack in fridge or cabinets etc ....
Also I noticed that my backpain is a lot if I bend or stand a lot.
Is any of u also having these difficulties?

I too had this problem , when my stomack started growing but try bending your knees instead of your back! Everytime you got to take something from the ground or at a lower level bend at your knees and take support of a cabinet /chair near you. That way your ack wont hurt and the standing proble do no stand for more tha 1/2 hr.
Try sitting or sleeping in between to give rest to your feet, cos the are not used to taking so muct weight.

Hi,
i know your pregnacy is alot different from mine as u r carrying twins. But keep squatting whenever u can it is a great exercise for childbirth&also when having to do standing jobs for more than 20/30mins shift wt from 1 leg to another or keep a small footstool to tranfer wt of 1 leg for sometime.
While cooking do all the chopping, preparing ingredients etc sitting.Take breaks like while the curry is simmering, drink a glass of juice&go sit on the couch.
Abt rearranging your kitchen don't keep too many items on top where u have to keep reaching out, that posture may not be good for the spine.
Iam not sure if u r exercising every day but i have started doing the stretches to tone various muscles.I found it on this site itself just type exercises under search&follow the simple stretches, iam having less back pain&feeling good.
I recommend all of u to do the tailorsitting pose&squatting ,they r excellent postures to strengthen the pelvic musculature.
Abt the baby wt in your abdomen ya i too feel it when stretching but don't worry they r swimming in amniotic fluid so have enuff shock absorbers.Anyway be gentle&gradual in all movements&take care!!

Hi Bhargavi

I think u should be careful when u bend. What i mean is don't bend directly instead try to sit down and then pick up things. I know its hard bur bending more frequently may leads us in preterm labour. i don't want to scare u but we all have to be carefull at this time. i am also like u regarding picking stuff from floor etc. but we have to make it a habit to sit and then pick.
Regarding stairs i don't think there is any problem as long as u r comfortable. but if u r having pain then i think u should take it easy. And the best thing is to ask ur dr.

Hope this helps

I too read that bending a lot may cause prematurity, I was mentioning abt the occasional bending we do at home, not too much. Anyway I am planning to tell my hub to rearrange things in the kitchen much better so that I dont have to bend at all.... Yes I sit down in knees and then take something, not direct bending, even sitting in knees I am scared...
Anyway, thanks.
Good Luck with ur new house
