Name: Kaamna Hi Archie and other moms,
I am expectingmy first child in July 2006. I was wondering, how much time it takes to get your periods normal after delivery?
Also we are in our mid thirties, so would like to have another child ASAP. I am a housewife and have a good family support (MIL, Sister and Mom living just 2-3 blocks away), and have a nice group of friends for babysit etc, so i am not worried about taking care of 2 small babies. Please tell me how much one should wait before trying again? Like how many months after the periods are normal?
Any advice is appreciated,

Hi Kaamna,

It varies between people. I had periods for about 28 days after delivery continuosly. After that I got my periods around 8 months after delivery. I think you should first enjoy the first one. It is great fun to watch a kid's growth stage by stage. You should start trying for the second kid after your first one turns 1 year. But it is upto you to decide...

Kaamna,
the menses following delivery can be anytime after 5 weeks. For some it starts right in 5th week postpartum or for some it takes months to year. It's individual.
If you plan on nursing baby then your menses will be irregular.
I think you should hold on the query of when to have second child until you deliver and experience your first menses.

Personally I believe if all is fine then you should nurse first one for a full year and then think of weaning and getting pregnant for the second baby. However, it's too personal choice.
