Due Date Club July 2008:siri - triple test

hi siri..

till this morning i was not worried about my triple test results.. i met my doctor and she asked me to go in for a scan so that we can erase any doubts for down syndrome.. my risk ratio is 1:391.. which comes just above the age risk apparently.. since there was no reference range mentioned in my report i had no reason to worry and thought that it was ok.. but now i am so freaked out, its unbelievable.. i can understand ur worry.. i am going for a detailed scan tomorrow.. sometimes i feel all this extra information can drive a person totally mad.. a friend of mine who is due on the same day as i am hasn' t been asked to go in for a triple test even though she is 29 yrs old as well..

i don' t think you should worry at all coz you are very young.. and the risk only is there when a woman is much older.. i.e. above 35 yrs.. all i can think of is that doctors want to make money and send us for as many scans possible.. i have no choice but to go for the scan coz she has planted the seed of doubt in my head and won' t relax till i know for certain that there' s nothing wrong with my baby.. i' m sure u want to do the same.. but don' t stress too much coz u have age to your advantage..

keep us updated.. i will let u know what happens tomorrow

hi siri

i went for a detailed scan today and everything turned out normal.. the risk increases when like you said, there' s a miscarriage, or consanguinity - which means marriage within the family.. or exposure to excessive alcohol, drugs and smoke..but by no means does it mean that if one has had a miscarriage, then the next will definitely have down syndrome.. coz many women do miscarry and it could be for infinite reasons.. so don' t worry too much.. the risk will be reduced on your 2nd blood test.. that' s what my radiologist told me also.. and he reduced my risk from 1:391 to 1:1173 after the scan.. so do go for another blood test or scan.. it will relieve you of all stress... and treat it like you' re just doing it as a precaution more than anything else..

let me know..
