hi

my son is 3/12 months old.he has lot of difficulty sleeping becoz he gets up every 5 min in fear.the minute he starts sleeping, his face goes thru a cotinuum of expressions, most of which shows extreme fear.then he starts brathing heavily and cries out loudly in sleep.when he cries,it is inconsolable.even when i try to calm him buy rocking him, hugging him, patting him,he does not get soothed.if he does and he goes back to sleep, the next second, this fear comes back.because of this neither he nor me have any sleep at all and hence he is sleepy and irritable all day. Also he wants to be rocked and lullabied to to go to sleep and i dont know how to get rid of this habit as I have to return to work. All suggestions welcome. Please help!!!!

priya, i know what you are going through... my child went though something similar... it reached a climax where i had not slept in 4 days and had not even eaten during that time... i was refered to a mother-craft centre and i can not say enough about the benifits of our stay there... priya i dont think your baby is scared i think he may be very tired and does not know how to go to sleep.
it sounds silly but babies do not know how to go to sleep,i was taight that teaching baby to sleep also its important to give them a routine... i will tell you my routine and i hope you can make it suit you by changing it in a useful way.my child was the same age as your baby so i am hoping this will help to suit you sweet child.

6am- baby wakes and is fed, bathed and some play time with momma. baby should only be awake for approx 1 hour.
10am- again baby is awake and fed, play time and within an hour should be back in bed.
2pm-same as before
10pm- more of the same....

people often dont recognise the symptoms of a tired baby... baby will begin clenching fists, grimacing and waving arms in the air... babies sometimes disply irritability. do not rock your baby to sleep as it does not teach them to learn to sleep on their own. they need to learn to settle themselves for their own benifit.
make sure baby's room is comfortable and tuck baby in... pat baby for 3 min on the back while making soothing sounds like shush-shhhh (its impotant you do not speak to baby) then leave the room. if baby wakes wait around 2-5 mins before going back and repeating the patting and soothing sounds. it will take sometime for baby to learn, about a week. please be diligent and strong while you are teaching baby to sleep priya, but i promise you that if you stick to this then your baby will soon be so easy that all you need do is kiss your precious child and tuck him and and he shall sleep. good luck with everything you are indeed blessed to be a mother.

I passed by the same with my baby. Its terrible!! I understand you a lot....My problem was that my baby was colic I had to change his formula 3 times. I found it out after two weeks of crying and not sleep.
That is not normal...Please!! Bring him to a Pediatric. It may be his belly hurts and He is not digesting well food or something can be hurting him.
Babies cry for a reason They can be high maintaining, but there is always a reason.

Make sure that he is fine first.

Hi Priya

I can understand how you must be feeling - every baby is different and require different strategies to fall
asleep. My little girl is 11 and a half months old and mostly needs to be breastfed to sleep.

May I suggest you check out the foll: websites - both provide excellent information. Use whatever method you feel comfortable as each situation is unique. Since we are not allowed to post urls, I am splelling out the web address.

Good luck

Priya

Sleep Problem due to itchy skin
My baby girl is unable to sleep properly due to skin rashes. I have resumed oil massages to help calm her down and facilitate better sleep, using CITTA Baby Massage Oil. Additionally, I am applying the ointment recommended by her doctor for the rashes. Could you please provide me with more ideas that can promote better sleep for her?... - Sanchari Tarafdar [View Message]

RE:How to Develop a Sleep Routine for your Newborn
According to me this is good but then you cannot force your child to sleep as per your wish as kids as really bad in this and they have a tendency to sleep in day and get up in late night so according to me this is not the key to success, please post if i am wrong.... - Anita [View Message]
