Hi All,
My name is Ritu and I have a 15 month old baby. I am planning to travel to India from US in October. Should I buy a ticket for my baby or will I be able to handle him on my seat.I am not sure what to do. I am thinking I might get a empty seat or may be not?? Please tell me what your expereinces have been.
Thanks in advance

Bhairavi replied. If you are going by British Airways, they have this Britax car seat which you can fit at bulkhead position seats. I had travelled to India when my daughter was 10 months old with infant fare, and no way she could fit in the cot they give. But since BA has those car seats as well, it was pretty easy for me.. So, you can enquire your airlines abt what type of seat/cot do they provide for infants. If they have car seats, then its great.. Otherwise, u might have to either carry a car seat or buy a separate seat for your baby. Otherwise it will be very tiring for you, unless you are travelling with someone.. Also Ritu, I would suggest from my exp, please checkin early and go for the aisle seat or else it becomes really difficult to handle your baby. Hope this helps..

Hetal replied. hi, i havent travelled overseas with my toddler..
but i have heard of toddler parents suggesting me all the time for the carseat to take along. they said it was easier for them when they were sleeping and you will save yourself from all that stress of carrying them all the time, and you can grab a nap too esp if the journey is all the way to india. most of the times, most brand carseats are allowed and are not considered as seperate item. check your airlines for details.
its a worth taking seats esp if you are travelling for more than 5-6hours and your baby seems to be having his naptime in those times...
so if you are ok in holding your toddler all the way,, its upto you. a toddler generally runs around the flight :) thats wat i got the feedback from my friends who recently came back from india..and the other times they were sleeping..no way they would like to sit in one place or in your lap..
i took infant car seat when my daughter nirja was 7-8months at my florida 5hour trip by flight and it was so much peace to let her sleep in her own seat, and i too could grab a good time in relaxing and talking to my dh.
so thats my opinion and i would definately take along car seat for my daughter if i happen to travel by air.
Arti replied. I am going to India in Nov End. By that time arjun will be approx 16 and 1/2 months old. We had got a Seat for him, just in case.

i travelled with my son when he was 6 month..dint bought ticket for seat only paid 10% of fair...i got basinet for him but was of no use he was all the time sitting ,sleeping with me in my lap whenevr i put him in basii he wokes up n cries but by luck i got empty seat just next to me n for sometimes i put him thier but that was jus for 5-10 min's. So u c if urs child sits without you then buy ticket seat for him ..cos it will b really hard to carry 15month old baby all the way cos journey to india is really long one.

Sheetal replied. Hi Ritu,
I traveled with Anushka to India when she was 4.5 months old. You have to get a ticket for the baby. You won't get a seat, but the infant fare on international flights is 10% of the published fare. When you book the ticket, ask them for a bulk head seat. That is the aisle seat they will give you which will give you more room. Plus, the flight attendant will give you a bassinet for the baby. You can check-in a small bag for the baby (cabinbag size). other than that, you can take a diaper bag in hand and a stroller.

oops sorry Ritu, i misunderstood u. I don't think it wuld be worth buying a seat for him. First of all, you don't know whether u will use it or not, coz u never know these babies. And another thing, if there is room on the flight, you will get a vacant seat in anycase. Flight attendants are more nicer to ppl with babies. When I was traveling, I got an empty seat every time next to me, Coz there are usually babies on that first aisle where they put the bassinet. This is just what i think.

Sheetal

THanks for your response. I know with 10% fare, you have to carry baby on your lap. I was thinking of getting regular seat for him. Don't you think it will be tough to carry toddler in your lap all the way?? I don't think he will fit in the bassinet anymore.

Breast pumps
I am using a medela pump to feed my baby when I am out. The medela breast pumps are really a good choice for the working moms. We can pump the milk regularly and can store it and use whenever needed.... - dalewhither [View Message]
evenflo elan breast pump
Buy this pump! It’s made my life so much easier. I always got sore with my old Medela Advanced, but that never happens with the Ameda Purely Yours Breast Pump. What really makes a difference is its ease of use. It’s really easy to switch between pumping phases and take apart to clean. Strongly recommend it for all mothers that pump daily.... - stellatylor [View Message]

HI Gayathri,
I used the puzzles, the wooden blocks for alphabets and numbers.... - Sheetal [View Message]
try this
As we discussed earlier in this forum I used magnetic alphabets , through which he has learnt alphabets within a week. And number within 4 days.
It is as like take the letter and stick to it where ever he goes more and ask him to search a particular letter. this worked very well for me.
