Hi guys,

I have been ttc for the past 3 months and I need to know whether it is enough if I take prenatal vitamin tablets or do I have to take Folic acid tablets also.....what if I take both??

Which is a good brand of Folic acid Tablets that I can get on the counter in Walmart ?

You can get Spring Valley Brand of folic acid from Walmart. But if you are already taking multivitamins, there is no need to take extra folic acid. We get folic acid from our food too, i.e. whole grains (Chapatis, Bread etc) and from orange juice etc too.

If your prenatal has 1 mg of folate it should be enough. But if you want to be extra careful, you can take any over-the-counter folate in addition to your prenatal. Normally, extra folate is prescribed to those with pre-existing risks. But extra folate will drain in urine, so it is not harmful.
