Due Date Club October 2003:Question on Cereal

Hi Girls,

Hope everyone is doing good and so as the babies. I have started giving cereal to Sid from 2 weeks and he is able to eat 2 or 3 spoons at once. I am giving him daily in the evening. How many times I can feed cereal in a day. Could you share some info like how what kind of food you are giving and how many times. Also which one to give in the morning and evening ?

I am confused of what to give when.

Please advice

Anu.

Anu yes as all pointed out the gerber site will help u understand the basics.Start with rice cereal and every 5-7 dys u can make a change if ure baby is happy with rice cereal u can choose to continue or move to another type like oats or barley.By 6 mths they can eat twice a day .Like I give him for bfast and dinner time. Then by 6 mths they can be eating 2 jars total of a fruit and a veg.Always anything start with small qty&gradually increase the #of spoons.Gerber site gives how to inc the qty.

Hi anu

Manisha and suni have given most of the info..just keep in mind if u try something new (like a new fruit or veggie/cereal) give it for a few days before u start a new one. As for feeding, depends on how Sid takes solids initially, if he is hungry quite often during the day inspite of good milk intake, would give twice a day. Would stick to one brand one cereal for a week atleast, fruits/veggies u can try one type for 3-4 days, once u know its not upsetting their system/tummy/allergic u can try a new one. There are too many brands/too many types..take it slow , easy for u and baby. There are mixes of veggies and fruits (like bananas & pineapple, etc.) don't try those till they get used to individual foods..hope u have fun feeding them.
Take care
Radhika

Hi Anu,

I will be starting cereal for Sahil this weekend. You can give cereal for breakfast and dinner, choose to rotate between eice, oatmeal and barley. If you visit the Gerber site, they have menus built and you can just follow them as much as possible. Hope this helps.
