Waiting to try:When to test.....??For Archie
2006-03-05
Name: Jaya

Hi,

Please can you tell me on which day of our menst. cycle should we do the home pregnancy test once the periods are missed...??

And if the test is positive, when to fix an appointment with the doctor. Should I ask for ultra-sound on the first appointment? If yes, then should I mention about it when I am fixing the appoinment on the phone?

Thank you in advance.
Cheers...

jaya,
Roshini did a great justice and does not require me to add anyting.
It's absolutely important to establish pregnancy during first visit and can be a longer when at Drs. office.
Not necessarily you should have an ulrasound on first visit, especially if you are not yet in 7th week.
Let that be decision of your OB.
Good luck
Archie

Hi Jaya, I am Roshni from September 2006 board.
You can take the Home Pregnancy test (First Response or Clear Blue) after 4-5 days of missed periods. I have heard from my friend that she got to know even 3 days before the due date was missed using First Response HPT. But to be most certain, use the HPT after 4-5 days of missed periods.
Though early pregnancy symptoms are similar to the PMS, but sore breasts, tiredness and headaches are common signals of pregnancy.
There is no need to take extra precautions in day to day work when you are pregnant. Just don't go to extreme while doing anything. Walking, light exercise, driving, doing regular domestic chores is all OK. But just take care of your diet and drink lots of water.
Keeping my fingers crossed for your good news,
Good Luck,
Roshni

Subject:  About Doctor's appointment

You can call the doctor's office to fix an appointment as soon as you get a positive pregnancy test. Depending upon when you get the appointment, the doctor will do Ultrasound. Like if you are only 6 weeks pregnant, she/he might not do an Ultrasound and can wait for few more weeks. Usually a +ve pregnancy test and checking the uterus vaginally is enough to confirm the pregnancy. For example I was scheduled to have an Ultrasound only in my second appointment at 12 weeks my next ultrasound is scheduled around 16-17 weeks. So it depends on your medical history, current symptoms of the pregnancy and doctor's discretion when you will have an ultrasound. When fixing an appointment you just need to tell the doctor your first day pf last period and confirmation of positive HPT. Thats it. You can ask him/her about an U/S when you meet the doctor but I think its upto doctor when he/she thinks is best to do it.
Good Luck and Take care,
Roshni
