Sleeping:sleep through the night

Hello friends,

I have a baby boy. He is 6 months 15 days old. From 3rd month to 5th month he used to sleep at least 5 hours at a stretch during the night. In the sixth month he had cold and cough at that time he woke up two, three times at night. I fed him and put him to sleep. But now he is waking up every two hours, he has gone back to his one month old schedule.

As my docs suggestion I started solids after 6 months. I have started with rice cereal. I am giving him daily one spoon with water.
My question here is why my baby is getting used to the wrong sleep pattern, is he not getting enough food. He sleeps in a crib, is this causing any concern in him. Please let me know your opinions and solutions.

Thanks
Suma

Hi suma,

My son is also 6 months and 10 days old. He had also very bad cold when he was around six months old. He doesn't sleep at night also. I work full time so its really hard for me. I totally understand how u feel.

You should give him more food like vegges. I give him one fruit, one vegges and 1 time cereal.

Please let me know when he start sleeping through night ok?

Take care,
Maleka

Hello Suma,

Has ur baby started crawling yet? My baby girl used to sleep through the night till she was 6.5 mo old. Her Grandma left back for India and she started crawling at the same time. She has since not stopped getting up at night. She gets up only once though for milk.

As large muscle motor skills start developing or due to change in environments, babies do cchange their sleeping patterns. Nothing to worry about though. Its just a phase and will pass soon.

Take care,
Deepa

hello deepa, new mom and jane

thank you all for your suggestions.
even my doc told me to increase his food, now i am giving him 4 spoons of rice cereal. he is sleeping little bit better.

deepa, even my son used to sleep thru night when my mom was here. and now when ever he wakes up he directly tries to sit, which is making him wide awake. now he is sitting with support. that could be one reason.

when should i start giving him vegetables. let me know.
thanks again.

take care

you definately need to increase the amount of cereal or the food/milk you give him before bedtime. my baby girl is 5 months now, from 3 months she used to sleep for atleast 6-7 hours at night, now since i have increased her cereal intake to 4-5 tablespoons each feeding()that is 2 feedings of cereal in a day and rest of the times milk) she sleeps atleast for 8-9 hours at night. actually i am getting worried about her sleeping so long sometimes.
another thing is to keep ur baby from not sleeping during the daytime much and get him tired more during the daytime. i usually play with her and keep her awake and take her outseid in the evenings, so she is so tired after her bedtime feeding that she goes right to sleep and gets up in the mornings
take care

Sleep Problem due to itchy skin
My baby girl is unable to sleep properly due to skin rashes. I have resumed oil massages to help calm her down and facilitate better sleep, using CITTA Baby Massage Oil. Additionally, I am applying the ointment recommended by her doctor for the rashes. RE:How to Develop a Sleep Routine for your Newborn
According to me this is good but then you cannot force your child to sleep as per your wish as kids as really bad in this and they have a tendency to sleep in day and get up in late night so according to me this is not the key to success, please post if i am wrong.... - Anita [View Message]
