Due Date Club November 2003:giving newborn water?

Name: Venita(Jan 2004 board) My baby is nearly 4 weeks old and feeds every two hours during the day (every three hours at night). Sometimes he is hungry between his regular feed timings and I have heard that one can feed the baby water in between. Just wanted to know if it is okay to feed the baby a little water in between. Please let me know.

If Breastfed not needed

Hi Venita. Congratulations on the birth of your son.

If feeding soley on breast milk, the baby gets water from the feed itself. However, if you stay where it is hot or if baby cries in between when not hungry etc, then a few spoons of water a day shouldn't harm. Though make sure it is boiled and cooled at room temprature. Mineral water is not recommended for babies.

Hey Venita, Congratulations on your baby boy.
Giving baby water, although not required, is just fine.

If you do decide to give him water make sure it doesn't fill him up and keep him from having his milk which he does need...
