hi Hetal. thank you very much. I was also looking for some ideas.
i have 7 mth son.i am pure vegie. we dont even eat eggs. i have not introduced him tofu yet. my dr said after 8 months.
In the schedule for 6month old, you mentioned about meat. how do i replace that. if i dont give that, my baby growth will be slow or affected anyway?
what else i can give to my 7 month old so that he gets all nutrients of meat as well.
thanks, please reply.

Hetal replied. i thought that post was over, after Mr replied...neways,,sory about that.
from your post it looks like you are worried about the vegetarian diet..the answer is big YES, you can get all from vegetarian diet without compensating on your baby growth.
here is your answers :
most of the times you must be worrying about protein which are said to be more in meats or rather nonvegs...
here are some good protein sources are: lentils, tofu, low-fat dairy products(not for babies below 2 years),nuts(not below 1 year), seeds(ok to give, dpnding on what suits), tempeh, peas... Many common foods such as whole grain bread, greens, potatoes, pasta, and corn quickly add to protein intake.
in indian grocery,,start offerings lentils (toor dal, channa dal, massoor dal, moong dal mixed with rice in the form of khichadi or mix dal dosa,,add in some vegies and its full meal for little baby), in whole, go for whole moong(try water of whole boiled moong or sprouted boiled whole moong soup, whole black channa (whole black channa after 1 year)..
sprout the whole ones and you get the best source of protein,,1 med bowl ==1 egg :),,so sit back and relax.
also mixed flour pancakes(barley, milley, rice, oatflour, wheat you can start from 8-9month onwards or wait until 1year,,upto you,) is powerpacked with iron and if you add wheatgerm,,1 tblsp, provides some 45% of folic acid..wheat germ introduce only after your baby goes good with wheat flour, which is after 10-11 months or depending on your baby apetite.
also your worry about eggs, just to mention that we dont give whole 1 egg to infants below 1 year, just the yolk that contains high protein but it also gives high cholestrol free,,,in moong you will not get any cholestrol !! so njoy,,give your baby only what he needs and not a free gift.
Although we’ve long been told, mostly by the meat and dairy industries, that the most complete protein sources come from animals—meats, cheeses, eggs--—that claim is not supported by the evidence. Studies show that animal and vegetable protein have similar effects—but vegetable protein does not come with saturated fat.so be happy.
Forty-five percent of broccoli’s calories come from protein. Oatmeal, wheat, and other grains are also good sources of protein,,,so plan to give that !! at 7 monhts you can give oatflour(boil it and its oatmeal cereal)
your baby is getting enough from vegies,so dont worry.if you are breastfeeding, take a good complete vege diet. Complex carbohydrates such as whole grains and vegetables are the body’s high-test fuel, which probably the amercian heart association has got the reasons as to why most of vegetarian people have gained energy and lived longer than the ones with nonveg diet. vegetarian people have reported least number of infections, cronic diseases thru out their life.
in short, you are giving good to your baby, so be happy and njoy your time seeing him grow healthy & strong.if you are still afraid that you are not giving enough, check with your dr !!! also for otherr referrels on veg diet, check the american heart association official website, also the articles by bill clinton new program on healthy america..
njoy greens,and have a good time !
take care,
Regards

i dont consider myself a pure vegie even though i was supposed to be. i fit good in being eggiterian,,esp in winters :))..but for nirja, i dont plan to give her eggs until she decides to take it.
nirja is 11month old as of now,,and is a very naughty girl.

Breast pumps
I am using a medela pump to feed my baby when I am out. The medela breast pumps are really a good choice for the working moms. We can pump the milk regularly and can store it and use whenever needed.... - dalewhither [View Message]
evenflo elan breast pump
Buy this pump! It’s made my life so much easier. I always got sore with my old Medela Advanced, but that never happens with the Ameda Purely Yours Breast Pump. What really makes a difference is its ease of use. It’s really easy to switch between pumping phases and take apart to clean. Strongly recommend it for all mothers that pump daily.... - stellatylor [View Message]

HI Gayathri,

try this
As we discussed earlier in this forum I used magnetic alphabets , through which he has learnt alphabets within a week. And number within 4 days.
It is as like take the letter and stick to it where ever he goes more and ask him to search a particular letter. this worked very well for me.
all the best... - Manju [View Message]
