Waiting to try:hello Archie

Hi Archie

I took the hpt after one week as you advised and it came out negative. so though I had my periods only for two days, they are actually true menses. So its definitely a chemical pregnancy as you said.

Today, I talked with my gynec regarding the progesterone test which you suggested. She is saying that she really didn't feel that I have this problem. She said she will usually due the progesterone test only after a women conceives. She is saying that she will do the progesterone test for me only after I see a positive hpt...i,e only after I conceive again.

Can you explain me what is her intention in this. I mean can we do the progesterone test and take supplements if it is less, after seeing a poisitive hpt? How much effective it is in doing like this to avoid a chemical pregnancy? Having two consecutive chemical pregnancies, I am scared of having third one.

Rekha,
there are many who don't even notice about chemical pregnancy and I am positive that such girls exist who may have in a row of chemical pregnancy but unaware of the same.
It can be an issue for those who have short LP. This is what I meant by progesterone supplement. The short LP usually won't have enough of progesterone and may lead to chemical pregnancy but not necessarily be the case always. One way to look in to is if one has too short LP then provide supplementary Progesterone to assure that loss of pregnancy would not be there due to inadequate progesterone. But if your Dr. suspect that your LP is normal then supplementing progesterone is not likely be the solution.

Besides most of the women do progesterone only after conceiving and this is why your OB suggested it. All you can do is to point out ovulation and see when you get period, this is going to help understand LP. If this is normal then no supplement is required.

Also try not to do lot of work in LP, relax and rest.

Hello Rekha,

I do not want to add to your existing concerns. Hope this does not alarm you.

Since you have had two miscarriages, can you ask your doctor to test you for immunologic factors or blood clotting disorders? I am not sure how soon after the miscarriage those tests are to be done. But I since my own loss I have been reading up about it. Some women who suffer from repeated miscarriages MIGHT have some issues in their blood which can be corrected with medication during pregnancy.

But most doctors do not test for them unless you have had 3 or more miscarriages. Sounds awful, right? You can just ask.

But please, please do not think that you have problems in your blood. I am just trying to help. Please do not mistake my comments.

Good luck and baby dust to you, Aarti
