I am confused about howmuch time i must feed baby on each breast ?
Somebody told me that if baby drinks for 20 min then you must feed for 10 min each.

But somewhere i read that initially milk is very watery and after sometime only it is thick to suffice baby hunger.So let him finish full milk on one breast and move him to another.

I am confused what is ideal and best. Right now i am using combined approach.

Please help me out.

Veda replied. Hello Alka ,
the std ideal for each breast is 15 mins, roughly 5 mins for watery flow ( to quench the thirst) and 10 mins for the thicker more wholesome milk for babys hunger as youve mentioned. On an average of 15 mins a full breast gets emptied . After your babys through with it, offer the 2nd breast . If your other breast begins to leak when your babys feeding, don't switch over till he/shes through with one completely . If the babys almost full till he/she finishes one breast and just has little of the other, next feed time, offer him/her the other breast initially to prevent any heaviness & leaking .
This will ensure that the babys getting the entire nutrition and also keep both breasts flow as required.
