My 50 days old son cries a lot every evening.I can see the sleep in his eyes but he doesnot sleep.I have to eventually give him colicaid syrup which contains dill and fennel oil and then he sleeps.I am worried about his behaviour & giving him this syrup everyday. Please help.I feed him properly and his weight gain also seems ok until now.The only problem is his sleep and only in late evening.

Hey shweta and all ,

It was nice to read everyone's input to this. I was facing the same problem for a week now and thought it was gas problem. My baby sleeps fine till 6:00 and ater that when he wakes up..he looks playful and happy so we all keep him in the living room and he plays but soon he loses interest and starts crying bitterly. He wont drink bottlemilk or take breast feed..he would suck a bit and then push it away and again cry a lot . He looks very sleepy but cant seem to get his sleep .Somedays this goes on till 12 midnight. I have started giving him gripe water as well I put him to sleep as soon as he behaves like this.
I hope this colic behavior will end soon..

Colic seems to be a very common problem so u neednot worry.I have started keeping my baby relaxed since morning so that he doesnot get tired in the evening.i also try to avoid any syrup or gripe water as my pedi says its better to allow the baby cope naturally.as u can see perks message below,it will be beneficial to give massage in the evening time but as its very cold here in bangalore i cant.keep the baby calm & relaxed.it helps.

yes u can feed in sleeping position in night. Actually I find that this is better cz mom & baby both get exhausted in the night doing all the baby thing during the day. So feed lying down while you rest and baby relaxes.
You can try burping when he wakes up, or hold upright and pat the back, if u feel he is uncomfortable.

You can give Woodwords gripe water available in India.

Seems Your baby becomes tired in evening smitulated by the daily routine.
Give him a message betn 4-5 clock.
Then feed him. Burp him.
Dress & Go out for a small walk or sit in balcony . If weather no good roam in your home and show baby different rooms.
By 8 PM take him bed, switch off all lights. No noise ,talk softly ,feed him as much & as many times he wants , do not turn on light at all.... He will become very peaceful and feel sleepy. Tuck a blanket and leave the room.
Make it a daily routine and he will develop a sleep pattern and wont feel tired.

Whenevr you see sleepy eyes ...just rock him he will sleep.
When you see him sleepy but not sleeping and crying means he is overtired and need immediate rest.
If u feel he is tired message him and breastfeed he will relax.
Hope this helps.

Hey i really dint realise that he might have got tired.he does play a lot with me & my parents so he must be getting tired.I feed him and at that time he sleeps but the moment i try to put him to bed or on cradle he wakes up.Pls suggest if i can feed lying on the bed(sleep position so that i dont have to lift him once he sleeps). Also i am always not able to burp the baby after feed as he sleeps during feed and i dont want to wake him up for burp. Please suggest.

Hi Shvetha, I agree with you. Same is the position of my son. He is also 50 days old. Try to give him some ayurvedic syrup instead of colicacid or homeopathic gripewater. He will be ok by the end of 3-4 months.....as it is the most peak period of colic he is passing through.
