Crying & Colic:My son has gas problem
2005-10-12
Name: Hema Arora

Hi, My son is 45 days old. He has gas problem almost from the day 2-3 of his birth. He releases gas very often. Sometimes he starts crying while taking feed, leaving the feed in between.....and at times he starts crying with no reason.....We think it might be because of gas pain.... and when he does not calm down, we are get tensed. I am giving him breast feed as well as lectogen powder milk alternatively. Can I try giving him double toned milk or cow milk instead of powder milk? I am also giving him ayurvedic drops for his gas pain....but not much relief is there. Should I go for allopathic treatment? Please Help me out!

gas os a natural problem and happened to mostly every baby.the best way to treat thos problem is to follow simple few steps...
1. after every feed try to hold your baby in head up position(standing position)for 10-to 15 min and rub his back so that he can burb.
2. if the problem suddenly accurs it is a very good idea to hold the baby in such a way that his stomach is pressed with ur shoulders i.e.let his upper part of the body pressed on your back and the legs hanging near your chest, with this position the stomach presses lightly with your shoulder and helps the baby to pass the exesesive gas.
3. u can apply asafotida mixed with mother milk around naval of your baby for an immidiate relief.

The best way to get rid of gas or Colic what we call is to give 4-5 drops of COLICAID, this is very effective, my son is 7mnths old but my doctor asked me to give when he was 4days old. Colicaid is not medicine and does not have any negative effect.
But still you can ask your doctor

Hello Hema,
are they any gas relef drops which are available besides what you told, do you burp him often. My son has gas problems also. I am in the US, he may be allergic to this brand of milk, not sure if you can try soya. Here they do not want us to give him cow milk.

Hi Hema,

try to give some gas breaking baby drops to your baby. Your pedi can recommend. You can give lactogen somtimes like twice a week but not daily as too much powder milk is the culprit for gas in your baby.
Breastfeed exclusively.
Visit this webpage and you will find info that is useful

I am typing dot instead of . because its not letting me post another website'link.

gas problem in babies is common at this stage.
Give your baby gripe water every 4-6 hrs. its very good and worked great for my baby.
If you think that after a feed he cries and u feel its uncontrolled give him Mylicon drop.Ask ur doc what they give in India. This will releive the pain immediately. I gave this to my baby it works wonders. This can be given to 1 week baby and very safe.

Do not miss a burp after a feed. try to burp betn a feed also.
In the evning if he cries take him out for a walk in stroller.
Try to breastfeed a lot , give lactogen only once at this stage and not alternately for about 4-5 months.

Do not give any other milk as its not good for baby at this stage.
try to eat enough and make your milk production good. exclusively breastfed babies suffer less from gas than formula fed babies. Visit www dot kelltmom dot com.

keep your diet easy. do not eat cabbage , gobhi. No chilli at all.
No fermented food like dosa/idly. rice is good alternative.
Eat ajwain with warm water once a day for 2 months.
Do not get tensed its very normal and it will all be over after 1 month. And give your baby medicine than letting him cry because he is in pain.

Hope this helps.
take care

My son is also 50 days old and he also has gas.But please dont always take it as a problem. Its common in breastfeed babies.I suggest you to burp the baby often and donot eat spicy food which may hurt the baby's sensitive digestive system.
