Sleeping:non-peaceful sleeper!

Hi!
My month old daughter still wakes up very frequently at night...sometimes all I have to do is carry her up and pat her and she falls back to sleep and other times I need to feed her. Any suggestions on how to help her sleep peacefully through the night? We have a fixed bedtime routine of a sponge bath followed by story time to calm her down and she sleeps in her own cot next to my bed. Any help will be appreciated.

Hi Krishika,
Sunita again! I agree with Suva. I guess all babies (at least I think so) go through this phase...we can only wait till they outgrow it. My 9 mth old gets up once or twice each night (sometimes even thrice) depending on how well she can sleep. Sometimes she sleeps so well and sometimes she keeps getting up so many times I feel like crying! However, I must admit that her sleep pattern has improved since birth. So my only consolation is that I know she will outgrow it. In the meantime my body just has to get used to the fact that it can still survive without the luxury of 8 whole hrs of continuous sleep!
Anyway, I must say that putting my foot down on a fixed and early bedtime has worked to some extent. She gets sleepy by 9pm (her bedtime) and gets grumpy if she's awake longer than that. Though it does take at least 45 minutes (usually longer!) to settle her down till she falls asleep...at least her body language clearly shows that she needs sleep. On nights when she wakes up at 2 or 3 a.m. and wants to play...I don't encourage her. I just put her on my bed and pretend to sleep. After a while she knows I'm not responding to her play and falls asleep too. So I guess we have to be just as stubborn as our babies are!
By the way, I'm from Malaysia. I'm a working mom and I work long hours. Travelling to and from work also takes up a lot of time so by the time my baby is asleep I can't wait to put MY head on the pillow! Chow and Happy Diwali!

Hi Krishika,

It takes a while(atleast 3 months) before a child starts sleeping thru the night.Do you burp her after every feed ? Sometimes babies wake up during the night b'cos of gas. I hv a 6 months old daughter .She was equally troublesome during the night in the first two months. From the 3rd month onwards she got into a decent night time routine. Now she is a pleasure.
So have patience..take heart from the fact that all mums go thru this initially.
Cheers

Sleep Problem due to itchy skin
My baby girl is unable to sleep properly due to skin rashes. I have resumed oil massages to help calm her down and facilitate better sleep, using CITTA Baby Massage Oil. Additionally, I am applying the ointment recommended by her doctor for the rashes. Could you please provide me with more ideas that can promote better sleep for her?... - Sanchari Tarafdar [View Message]

RE:How to Develop a Sleep Routine for your Newborn
According to me this is good but then you cannot force your child to sleep as per your wish as kids as really bad in this and they have a tendency to sleep in day and get up in late night so according to me this is not the key to success, please post if i am wrong.... - Anita [View Message]
