My son is 1 month old.I am breastfeeding and sometimes he is done in 10 mins and sometimes he sucks for 30 mins.Now is he really eating those whole 30 mins or using my boob as a pacifier to fall alseep.How do u make it out ?
Or it it because sometimes there is less milk and he is getting lesser quantity at each suck ?

For babies sucking is very soothing for them thats why most of the time babies go to sleep while nursing.
i dont think it has anything to do with reduced milk supply...if u can hear the gulping or swalloing sound ....u can be assured that he is drinking.....otherwise he is not.....
but as Suni has told ..it is very comforting for the baby so u shld let him do so....

If your son is swallowing then he is actually drinking milk....if you pump you will notice the milk output pattern from your breast. Typically milk comes out for a few min then there is a pause and then again there is milk flow, but probably not in the same high flow.....
Very often, babies will use their moms as pacifiers, it is good bonding time and very comforting for the baby.
