Due Date Club December 2007:flat nipples

Has anyone been told that their nipples are flat? If yes, what has been suggested?
I am in 31st week but am not getting any colustrum secretion. Have you observed any other changes in the breast?

Hi,

I had flat nipples and when my son was born he did well on the first couple of days but after that he did seem to have problems latching on, I was given nipple shields by the hospital where i delivered and we seemed to do well with them.
I used the sheilds for a couple of months, after that i was able to BF my baby without the sheilds.
Talk to the doctors and nurses after you deliver, if you have problems, and be patient you and your baby will be able to figure out a way.
Colostrum may or may not be secreted before the you deliver.
All the best

I think the colustrum starts immediately after birth and not now... the flat nipple as such shouldnt be a problem for breast feeing as the baby is supposed to latch on to the aereole and not the nipple.

The best way to help the baby latch is to press the breast between thumb and other fingers to make it kind of a sandwich. The sucking action of the baby on the aereole stimulates milk and nipple is just a passage.

Hope that helps..

Best wishes for everything..
Richa.

My son also had the same problem his legs used to shiver my doc said it is due to calcium defieciency b.coz I was calcium deficient. She gave him a tonic for 2 mnths it cured after that. The reason why ur baby' s leg is shivering may be this. Plz contact ur doc and take necessary steps as soon as possible.... - Sahila Gupta [View Message]

Not to worry
If you want a normal delivery, ask your doc first to try vaginal delivery if not then go for forceps delivery where baby can taken out with the help of tongs...
