Hi Anindita..

first of all, let me tell u this: u have a very pretty name :)

we are also ttc for the past 6 months or so. am not an expert in these matters, but this is what i've learnt from this forum and by surfing the net.

take the first day of ur last period as Cycle Day 1 (CD 1). say you got your last period on October 15. Oct-15 is CD 1. So, if you have a regular 28 days cycle you can expect your next period on CD 28 i.e. around Nov-11.

For a 28 days cycle,
CD 1 - 5 : periods (approx 3-5 days)
CD 6 - 9 : dry / non-fertile period
CD 10 - 12 : pre-ovulation; fertile period
CD 13, 14 : ovulation days; peak fertile period
CD 15, 16 : post ovulation; fertile period
CD 17 - 27 : dry / non-fertile period
CD 28,29 : start of next cycle

During the fertile period, one normally notices an abundance of cervical mucous and it is usually like egg-white in appearance. Some women have slight cramps around ovulation time while others notice their body temp rise arnd & after ovulation.

The number of days from ovulation to your next periods (called the luteal phase) is fairly constant - around 14 days. So, if your cycle time is more than 28 days, say, 30 days, then the ovulation occurs approx around CD 16. On the other hand if you have a shorter cycle period, say, 25 days, ovulation is around CD 11.

There are many sites that give good explanation for the various changes the body undergoes during the cycle. Just google with the words TTC, ovulation, fertile etc.

Hope this is not too confusing. Welcome to this forum :)

Good luck & God bless
krsna
