Due Date Club October 2003:are u girls breastfeeding at nights

hi girls,
i delivered a baby boy one month back. my parents could not come, so am alone. hubby goes to work. the whole day i am busy with my baby and household work. i cannot avoid household work as i hv to do laundry, cook (cant order from outside as i am avoiding spicy and gassy food, so hv to cook myself). so by the time the day is over, i am so tired that i hv no energy left and am dead by the time its night. because of this i started formula for night time feedings for my boy so that my husband could also take turns at nights. but now because of not feeding at nights, my milk supply has reduced drastically. now i get only abt 2 to 3 ounces of milk in a day (i pump it with the breast pump). do u girls hv any suggestions? do u girls breastfeed at nights too?? how do u manage it at nights??? do u know what i can do to increase my milk supply. I desperately want to breastfeed my baby and everyday i decide to breastfeed or atleast pump at nights (2-3 times) but by the time the day is over, i am dead, no energy left. so what should I do? r any of u feeding formula for ur little one? Pls help. thx a lot in advance. bye. am busy right now, little one has started crying. appreciate all of ur advise and help.

Hi Tannu,

I can understad how tough your situation is. I would say pls try to organise yourself better if you can. I mean leave cleaning..like vacuum etc. for the hubby for the weekends and maybe once or twice mid week if and as reqd. Also my experience is that there is no end to kitchen work, so pls try to spend one hour in kitchen and finish everything, that's what I used to do till my mom came. I can understand that if your husband is not able to help much that must be because he must be really busy. But he could help u with things like laundry which don't require special skills like cooking. Maybe sit with him once and divide some work based on the time he has. Maybe you will find that u are not so tired and might find the energy to feed the baby at night. I know these are motherhood statements and are easier said than done. But if you are a north Indian maybe I can help u plan a menu so that u spend only one hour cooking. Do let me know if you need help.

Take Care and all the best.

Ritu

hi,
dont tire urself....ur milk wld have reduced coz of that itself...
try including lots of garlic in ur diet and as radhika has mentioned...eat fenugreek seeds....
and one more thing that u can do...is to pump ur milk every2 hrs...if ur baby is feeding every 2 hrs...after he feeds pump the milk...so that ur brain gets the messg that more milk is needed...
hope this helps...
ask ur husband to share some of ur workload...like cooking etc....
take care,
sumana

That is really hectic..If ur friends offer to give ur dinner/lunch do accept it. First thing my pediatrician asked me was if i am taking rest..so u shouldn't be exerting much, i know u cannot avoid cooking, but cook simple foods, easy to make or ask husband to do the laundry even if its late night.
Doc advised me to take lots of water and milk..fenugreek seeds are known to increase supply but i am not sure.
I would think regular water and milk intake helps thats all i do.
I hope others more used to it for long will help..i am still getting used to it now.
Take care.
Radhika
