Hi All, Is anyone aware of usage of Castor Oil to induce pains. I'm in my 41 week and my doctor is on vacation...I was due on 23rd Nov, I'm getting very anxious now.

I have checked with many older women and they said that they were suggested to take Castor Oil in their pregnancies. Me and my husband both are not sure what to do.....

Sanju Simmi replied. hello sanju. hope ur labour started on its own by now!! Well, castor oil is perfectly safe to use in the last stage of pregnancy, however, it is does not necessarily induce labour. It would give u upset tummy and then water might break and onset of labour may happen. But either ways, it will make ur tummy have cramps and make u very tired. So best way to do is have it at night, few trips to the loo at night and then morning hope something happens. Otherwise u will be exhausted and not able to deliver at ease.
Like Avi said, best to check with ur doc, sometimes self induction may not be best option if the baby is not in the right position, u have castor oil, the labour may go on for longer than required and if u have lost water, the docs suggest to do c-section after certain time. So make sure the baby is ready to come before taking any steps. hope this helps.

Simmi Avi replied. Castor oil sure has been used to induce labor for a while now...but my suggestion to you would be to make sure your doc is alright with it before using it.. becoz I have read that its effects could be unpredictable..
